DESCRIPTION OF THE ILLUSTRATIONS. Portrait of Nelson as a Midshipman, exhibited by Dr. Ridge, M.D., in a Loan Collection, and reputed to be by Gainsborough; from a photograph now at South Kensington. Though it is very doubtful whether the original picture is by Gainsborough, there is such a similarity between the lower portion of the face with the portrait of Nelson's niece, who married Lord Bridport, that it may be regarded as likeness. Where the original portrait now is I have been unable to discover, Dr. Ridge having died the year before last, and its whereabouts now is not known to his present representatives ... Frontispiece.
