We are made partakers of the redemption purchased by Chrift, by the effectual application of it to us p by his holy Spirit q Q.30.How doth the Spirit apply to us the redemption purcha fed by Chrift? A. The spirit applieth to us the redemption purchased by Chrift, by working faith in us r, and thereby uniting us to Christ, in our effectual calling f 31. What is effectual calling? A. Effectual calling is the work of God's Spirit t, whereby, convincing us of our fin and mifery v, inlightning our minds in the knowledge of Chrift w,and renewing our wills x, ordained; whereof he hath given affurance unto all men, in that he hath raised him from the dead. 29 P John I. 11. Vhat Benefits do they that are effectualy called, partake of in this Life? A. They that are effectually called do in this life partake of juftification z, Adoption a, Sanctification, and the feveral Benefits which in this life do either accompany or flow from them b. Q. 33. Adoption is an act of God's free grace g, whereby we are received into the number, and have a right to all the privileges of the fons of God h. Q. 35. What is fanctification? 7 A. Sanctification is the work of God's free grace i, whereby we are renewed in the whole man after the image of God k, and are enabled more and more to die unto fin, and live unto righteousness 1. Q. 36. What are the benefits which in this life do accompany or flow from juftification, adoption, and fanctification? A. The benefits which in this life do accompany or flow from juftification, adoption and fanctification, are, affurance of God's love, peace of confcience m, joy in the holy Ghoft n, hers: fo by the obedience of one, fhall many be made righteous. f Gal. 2. 16. Knowing that a man is not juftified by the works of the law, but by the faith of Jefus Chrift, even we have believed in Jefus Chrift; that we might be juftified by the faith of Chrift, and not by the works of the law for by the works of the law fhall no flefh be juftified. Phil. 3. 9. And be found in him,not having mine own righteoufnefs, which is of the law,, but that which is through the faith of Chrift, the righteoufnefs which is of God by faith. 34.81 John 3. 1.
