WE have just received a new magazine bearing the title of THE REPUBLIC. The avowed purpose of this new serial is the dissemination of politicai information, and the number before us is devoted to that purpose. The typographical appearance of the magazine is admirable, presenting soine seventy pages in clear, large type, well divided and arranged for convenient reference and perusal. It is manifestly in full accord with the prescut administration, but in the initial number the editor has seemed content to open no line of argument, but rather to supply a simple record of current Congressional doings.-[Daily Globe,

THE REPUBLIC is the title of a new magazine to be published monthly at Washington, devoted to the dissemination of political information. This publication promises well, and we would commend it to the attention of our readers. Young men in particular who desire to keep posted in political affairs of national moment, that they may be able to form correct views on the great questions of the day, will find valuable aid in this magazine, the perusal of which can not fail to place them in a better position to judge how best they can discharge their responsible duties as citizens of the United States. THE REPUBLIC is well printed, will contain not less than forty-eight pages of reading matter, and will be furnished at $2 per annum; single copies 25 cents. THE REPUBLIC.-We have received No. 2 (April) of THE KEPUBLIC, a monthly magazine published at Washington, D. C. We expressed a favorable opinion of this magazine on receipt of the first number, publication. The entire contents are interesting to and it is not necessary to repeat. It is devoted to the discussion of the science of government and a review of political events. It will recommend such legislation as will tend to secure the physical comfort, the educational growth and the moral development of the people. Believing that the fundamental principles of the Republican party are correct and that when carried out in government affairs they tend to promote the best good of the people, it will seek to defend and maintain them. THE REPUBLIC.-We have received the second
number of this interesting and instructive maga-
zine, published at Washington, devoted to the dis-
semination of political information. The quantity
and variety of the contents equal that of many of the
$1 magazines, and no similar publications has, ince
the war, been issued at so low a price. Only $2 per

The first number of the REPUBLIC is before us.
It contains sixty-eight pages of valuable reading
matter. and is the most valuable compendium of cur-
rent political news we know of. The publishers in-
tend to publish in this work a condensed record of
the proceedings of Congress; the decisions and ac-
tion of the executive department; the action of the
States and of political bodies of national import;
the progress of material and educational develop-
ment; and decisions of the judiciary of political or
financial importance and of general application. The

zine published monthly in Washington, D. C., the
March number of which has just been received. It
is well printed, contains sixty-eight pages, and is
filled with able articles upon the current political
topics of the day. The questions treated upon are
discussed dispassionately, ably, and fully. It must
prove an invaluable text book to the editor, to the
legislator, to the political student, and to all who
wish to reach intelligent conclusions upon the vital
questions which thrust themselves before the people
day by day. The REPUBLIC should have, and doubt-
less will have, a large circulation; and judging from
its tone and the way it grapples with its subjects, it
is bound to become a power in the country.-[St.
