Kt. fourth square, White may play K. B. to K. second square and afterwards King to Queen's second square, and if his game appears crowded he may move K. Kt. P. two squares, and if necessary K. R. P. one or two squares, in order to make use of K. R. and K. Kt. If Black on the third move take Q. P. instead of advancing K. P., White will take with Q. B. P. and whether Black check with the Queen or advance Q. B. P. two squares or play Q. Kt. to Q. B. third square or make any other move, he will gain nothing. On the sixth move, Black may play as follows: 6. K. Kt. P. one square 6. K. B. P. two squares 7. K. Kt. to K. B. third sq. 7. K. Kt. to K. R. third sq. 8. K. R. P. one square, in order afterwards to play K. Kt. B. two squares and afterwards K. Kt. to K. B. Black has an excellent game, the White's pieces are very much confined. If White on the third move should play Q. Kt. P. two squares, Black must take K. Kt. then play Q. B. P. one square and afterwards check with the Queen, gaining K. R. P. or Q. Kt. P. * This game is very badly played by the White. † K. P. one square would be better. VARIATION.
