2. For defraying the expence of fervices performed by the office of ordnance, for land fervice, and not provided for by parliament in 1770

JANUARY 28, 1771.

Towards enabling the commiffioners for building a bridge cross the river Thames, from the city of Westminster to the oppofite fhore in the county of Surrey, to maintain the faid bridge, and to perform the other trufts repofed in them.

FEBRUARY 2.

1. For the pay of the general and general staffofficers in Great-Britain, for the year 1771.

2. For the paying of penfions to the widows of fuch reduced officers of his Majefty's land forces and marines as died upon the establishment of halfpay in Great-Britain, and were married to them before the 25th day of December, 1716, for the year

3. Upon account of the reduced officers of his Majefty's land forces and marines, for the year 1771

4. For defraying the charge for allowances to the feveral officers and private gentlemen of the two troops of horse-guards reduced, and to the fuperannuated gentlemen of the four troops of horseguards, for the year 1771

5. For defraying the charge of full pay, for 365 days, for the year 1771, to officers reduced with the tenth company of feveral battalions, reduced from ten to nine companies, and who remained on half pay at the 24th day of December, 1765

1. Upon account, for maintaining and supporting the civil eftablishment of his Majefty's colony of Nova-Scotia, for the year 1771

MARCH 1.

1. Towards defraying the extraordinary expences of his Majefty's land forces, and other fervices incurred, to the 26th day of December, 1770, and not provided for by parliament.

2. Upon account, towards defraying the charge of out-penfioners of Chelsea hospital, for the year 1771

MARCH 7.

For paying off and difcharging the Exchequerbills, made out by virtue of an act, paffed in the laft feffion of parliament, intitled, An act for raifing a certain fum of money, by loans or Exchequer-bills, for the fervice of the year 1770,' and charged upon the first aids to be granted in this feffion of parliament

That provifion be made for the pay and cloathing of the militia, and for their fubfiftence during the time they fhall be abfent from home, on account of the annual exercife, for the year 1771

APRIL 15.

1. Upon account, towards enabling the governors and guardians of the hofpital for the maintenance and education of expofed and deferted young children, to maintain and educate such children as were received into the faid hofpital on or before the 25th day of March 1760, from the 31st day of December 1770 exclufive, to the 31ft day of December 1771 inclufive; and that the faid fum be iffued and paid for the ufe of the faid hofpital, without fee or reward, or any deduction whatfoever

2. To enable the governors and guardians of the faid hofpital to defray any expences which may be hereafter incurred in maintaining and educating fuch children as were received into the faid hofpital,

on or before the 25th day of March 1760; and that the faid fum be iffued and paid, for the ufe of the faid hofpital, without any fee or reward, or any deduction whatsoever

That no further fum or fums of money be hereafter iffued, for the maintenance and education of fuch children as were received into the faid hofpital on or before the faid 25th day of March 1760.

3. Towards paying off and difcharging the debt of the navy

4. To replace to the finking fund the like fum, paid out of the fame, to make good the deficiency on the 5th day of July, 1770, of the fund established for paying annuities, in refpect of five millions, borrowed by virtue of an act made in the 31ft year of the reign of his late Majefty, towards the supply granted for the fervice of the year 1758

5. To make good to his Majefty the like fum, which has been iffued by his Majefty's orders, in pursuance of the addreffes of this houfe

6. To make good the like fum, which has been paid to feveral perfons in North-Britain, as a compenfation, and in full fatisfaction, of their loffes and expences incurred, pursuant to several orders of council, for preventing the spreading of the infectious diflemper amongst the horned cattle

7. On account, for defraying the expence of fupporting and maintaining the civil eftablishment of the government of Senegambia, on that part of the coaft of Africa, fituate between the port of Salle, in South Barbary, and Cape Rouge, for the year 1771

8. To be advanced to the governor and company of the merchants of England trading into the Levant feas, to be applied in affifting the faid company in carrying on their trade

9. To be employed in repairing, maintaining, and fupporting, the British forts and fettlements on the coaft of Africa

10. For the more effectually repairing the fort of Cape-Coaft-Castle, on the coast of Africa

APRIL 16.

1. On account of the expences of the new roads of communication, and building bridges, in the Highlands of North-Britain, in the year 1771 2. And to enable his Majefty to make good, to the United Company of Merchants of England VOL. XIV. [2]

trading to the Eaft-Indies, the expences incurred by the faid company in the expedition to Manilla, antecedent to the surrender of the island to the company's fervants on the second day of Nov. 1762. APRIL 22.

For reimburfing to the province of New Hampfhire, their expences in furnishing provifions and ftores to the troops raised by them for his Majesty's fervice, for the campaign in the year 1756. Sum total of the fupplies granted this feffion

Ways and Means for raifing the above Supply granted to his Majefty, agreed to on the following Days, vix.

DECEMBER 4, 1770. HAT the duties upon malt, mum, cyder and perry, be continued from the 23d of June 1771, to the 24th of June 1772, and charged upon all malt which fhall be made, and all mum which fhall be made or imported, and all cyder and perry which fhall be made for fale, within the kingdom of Great Britain, 700,000l.

13. That the fum of 4s. in the pound, and no more, be raised, within the space of one year, from the 25th day of March, 1771, upon lands, tenements, hereditaments, penfions, offices, and perfonal eftates, in that part of Great Britain called England, Wales, and the town of Berwick upon Tweed; and that a proportionable cefs, according to the ninth article of the treaty of union, be laid upon that part of Great Britain, called Scotland, 2,037,8541. 19s. rid.

FEBRUARY 1, 1771. That, from the expiration of the term for which the prefent bounty is given, the fum of thirty fhillings per ton be granted and paid, to all veffels, from twenty to eighty tons,

which have been built fince the year 1760, or which fhall hereafter be built, for the purpose of the white herring fitheries, and fhall be actually employed therein.

MARCH 7.

1. That, towards raifing the fupply granted to his Majefty, there be licenfed an additional number of hackney-coaches, not exceeding two hundred; and that the new licences, fo to be granted, be extended to all places within the cities of London and Westminster, and the fuburbs thereof, and the limits of the weekly bills of mortality.

2. That, towards raifing the fupply granted to his Majesty, there be referved, and made payable to his Majefty, his heirs, and fucceffors, upon every one of the faid licences, fo to be granted, for hackney-coaches, within the limits aforefaid, a rent of five fhillings a week, to be paid during the continuance of fuch licence.

3. That all the monies, to arife by rents of the faid additional number of hackney-coaches, be applied to fuch uses and purposes, and in the fame manner, as the monies arifing by rents of hackney-coaches, which were granted by an act made in the ninth year of the reign of

her late Majefty Queen Anne, are fubject and applicable to.

MARCH 11.

I. That the charge of the pay and cloathing of the militia, in that part of Great Britain, called England, for one year, beginning the 25th day of March, 1771, be defrayed out of the monies arifing by the land tax granted for the fervice of the year 1771.

2. That, towards raifing the fupply granted to his Majesty, the fum of 1,800,000l. be raised, by loans or exchequer bills, to be charged upon the first aids to be granted in the next feffion of parliament; and fuch exchequer bills, if not discharged, with intereft thereupon, on or before the 5th day of April, 1772, to be exchanged and received in payment, in fuch manner as exchequer bills have ufually been exchanged and received in payment.

3. That a bounty be continued on the fhips employed in the whalefishery to Greenland, Davis's Streights, and places adjacent, for a limited time.

4. That, from and after the expiration of the prefent bounty, a bounty of forty fhillings per ton, on all fhips employed in the faid fishery, be granted, for the term of five years; and, from and after the expiration of the faid five years, a bounty of thirty fhillings per ton; and, from and after the expiration of the faid fecond term of five years, a bounty of 20s. per ton, for five years, and to the end of the then next feffion of parlia

ment.

APRIL II.

1. That, towards raifing the fupply granted to his Majefty, the fum of 650,000l. be raised, by

way of lottery; fuch lottery to confift of 50,000 tickets; at 131. each; and that the contributors towards the fame fhall, on or before the 18th day of this inftant April, 1771, make a depoût with the cafhiers of the Bank of England of 1 1. in refpect of the money to be paid for every fuch ticket, as a fecurity for making the future payments to the faid cashiers, on or before the times herein after limited; that is to fay, for and in refpect of every fuch ticket, 21. on or before the 7th day of June next; 31. on or before the 10th of July next; 31. on or before the 21st of Auguft next; 41. on or before the 3d day of October next: And that tickets, as foon as the fame can be prepared, fhall be delivered to the contributors fo completing their payments: that the fum of 500,000l. fhall be divided into prizes, from each of which prizes there fhall feverally be a deduction after the rate of 101. for every 100l. and the fums remaining, af ter fuch dedusions, fhall be paid unto the proprietors of the feveral fortunate tickets in the faid lottery, out of any the aids or fupplies granted in this feffion of parliament for the fervice of the year 1771, at the Bank of England, in money, upon demand, on the firft day of March, 1772, or as foon after as certificates can be made out, without any further or other deduction whatfoever: and that all the monies to be received by. the faid cafhiers thall be paid into the receipt of his Majefty's exchequer, to be applied, from time to time, to fuch fervices as fhall then have been voted by this house in this feffion of parliament; and that every contributor, who shall
