REMARK.

ift. The above are the most noted places in Europe which exchange directly with England; exchanges are generally made, with other places, through the medium of fome one of these.

2d. It would occupy too much of this work to specify the different ways that these, and other places of confiderable trade, use in keeping their accounts, and making their exchanges one with another.

ARBITRATION of EXCHANGES.

THE courfe of exchange between one kingdom and another, rifes or falls, as the balance of trade happens to vary; and to draw upon or remit to foreign places, in the way that will be moft profitable, is what is intended to be taught by this rule.

Arbitration is of two kinds, fingle and compound.

SINGLE

ARBITRATION.

In fingle arbitration the course of exchange from one o two other places is given, from which is computed the arbitrated price, or par of arbitration between these places.

N Ö Τ E.

Ift. Operations of this kind are performed by the rule of three.

zd. When the par of arbitration is found, and the courfe of exchange is given, you may easily calculate which method of drawing or remitting, will be to the most advantage.

OBSERVE.

ft. In dealings of this fort a fum is allowed thefactor for commiffion, out of the fum he receives for the

draught

draught; and people who trade in this way generally have a perfon engaged for the purpose at every place they negotiate with.

2d. When you remit to any place, you really buy the money or bills of that place; and when you draw on any country, you fell the bills or money of that country.
