SUBTRACTION of COMPOUND
QUANTITIES.

Subtraction of compound quantities teacheth to find the
difference of two numbers, one or both of which
are compound.

Write the quantities as directed in compound Addition, place the greater quantity uppermoft, and draw a line under them. Then, begin at the right hand, and fubtract each lower quantity from that which is above it, and write down each remainder in its proper place. But if the lower quantity be greater than the higher one, add as many to the higher quantity, as make one of the next greater, and then fubtract, taking care to carry one to the next lower quantity for the number fo borrowed.
