MUltiplication of compound quantities teacheth to find a compound quantity which fhall contain a given compound quantity any propofed number of times. RULE. Write the multiplier under the loweft denomination of the multiplicand, and draw a line under them. Then, multiply the loweft quantity by the multiplier, reduce the product to the next higher denomination, and write down the remainder, carrying the units and adding them to the product of the next quantity multiplied as before. Do in the fame manner with every quantity, except the laft, which must be multiplied like fimple numbers. 1ft. When the multiplier is above twelve, multiply by two or three numbers whose product is equal to the 'multiplier; that is, firft by one, and then that product by another, and the laft product will be the answer. 2d. When these two or three numbers fall short of or exceed the multiplier, add or subtract the given quantity as often as is necessary. 3d.
