In conclusion, your Committee would humbly recommend to the General Assembly: First, to send down to the Presbyteries of the Church, for their consideration, the selection now presented to the Assembly; and, secondly, to appoint a small Committee for receiving and considering the reports of the Presbyteries. Should the Assembly wish a large collection, your Committee would humbly suggest, that this said Committee should possess enlarged powers, so that additional Hymns might be selected either from the Collection referred to the present Committee, or from other sources. Your Committee, however, respectfully beg to state, that this small Committee, the appointment of which they respectfully recommend to the Assembly, should consist of members who may readily meet together for mutual conference-a privilege which, from the composition of your present Committee, was entirely beyond their power.
