Earing that Dr. Whitby's
discourse on the frue points, mas reprinting on which is judged a master piece on the
subject, in the Englila tongue, I determined to give it a jref reading ; and having observed that the performance is accounted an unanswerable one, and that the general cry on that side of the question is, Why don't ye answer Dr. Whitby? I found my self inclined to an attempt of this nature, believing it pould be a proper and seasonable time to engage in such a work.
The method in which I propose to consider what this learned writer bas advanced on this subject, is, First, to examine the several passages of scripture which he chiefly makes use of for the confirmation of his own scheme, and as militating against those dočtrines which are commonly called Calvinistical; - and endeavour to answer bis arguments and objections from them, and set thefe paffages in a just and proper light; which composes

I purpose in a second part of this bork, to vindicate the arguments eftablished by us on several paisages of fcriptare, in favour of the doctrines of difeyiminating grace, from the exceptions of the Arminians, and particularly this learned author; and attempt a reply to the salwers and objections made unto ikom,
