The following Table shows the Number of National Teachers Pensions, who in each year since the commencement of the Pensions Act &c., to (1st January, 1880) were in receipt of Pensions from the Fund; also the number of those to whom, on Retirement, Gratuities under the Act were awarded, with the Total Amounts each year. The figures set forth in the Table have been furnished by the Teachers' Pension Office. Balance Sheet of 'Teachers' Pension Fund. 37. The number of Teachers paying premiums in the various classes on 31st December, 1901, was :— 38. The following statement relative to the Pension Fund has been furnished to us by the Teachers' Pension Office :The Income and Expenditure of the Pension Fund during the year 1901 were as follows: On 1st January, 1901, debt of the Irish Land Commission, 1,300,000 0 NOTE.-The sum of £38,397 13s. in aid of the Teachers Pension Fund was paid over by us within the year to the Fund. Expenditure on Schools and Teaching Staffs.* Schools. Expendi39. As far as we have been able to ascertain, the aggregate annual ture on Expenditure on the Schools from all sources, including Parliamentary Grant, Rates, School fees, and local subscriptions, amounted to £1,214,348 78. 3d., as shown in the following table. This would give an average of £2 10s. 11d. for each child in average daily attendance during the year: • NOTE.-The amount, £39,921 11s. bd., paid out of Vote for Board of Public Works for Buildings, Repairs, &c, of Vested Schools, is not included in this Section, neither is the amount, £28,569 12s. 10d., contributed from local sources towards the erection of New Buildings, &c., included (see page 11, Sec. 6), nor the Supplemental Capitation Grant, £83 68. 8d., in respect to the years 1892-6. † See Table I, page 58.
