Every teacher must have experienced the difficulty of keeping the little ones profitably employed during the whole of school hours; this little book, with the help of a slate properly ruled and a pointed pencil, will in some measure remove the difficulty. The writer having long felt the want of a simple little book to answer several purposes, very carefully prepared this one for his own school. It will be found useful in the classes, in the desks, in the nursery and for home lessons. Adult persons whose education has been neglected in their youth will find this book of great use. The Writing Copies are intended for the slate, but the more advanced pupils may copy them into a book suitably ruled. The slate and pencil should be used as much as possible by the children, and they may, when forward enough, write out their Spelling and Reading Lessons, the Tables and Texts, and should be encouraged to read all they write. The Reading Lessons may also be used as Exercises in Dictation. The Examples in Arithmetic are simple and progressive; the answers to which will be found at the end of Part 3. Should it be found that this simple little book has smoothed the path of learning for the little ones, and saved the teacher time and trouble, the writer will be amply repaid. G. M. |
