Girls. The discipline of this school is very fair, but its progress small. The mistress has not been trained. There is need of an infant-room attached to these schools.

Woodhouse, Feather-Hill.-Boys.-There is no regular master at present of this school, which is in a poor state of discipline and progress. Much want of punctuality in attendance at prayers.

Girls. The girls have made more advance than the boys, both in discipline and knowledge. The mistress seems anxious for the success of her school. The ventilation of both the rooms is imperfect. The play-ground much intruded on by idlers.

Hunslet.--Boys.--Boys fairly disciplined under an untrained master, and making tolerable progress. About half of them are mill children. Room not sufficiently warmed.

Girls.-Girls generally clean and neat, and in a fair state of discipline under the master's wife, making moderate progress. Infants. This school much fallen off in number. The room is hardly warmed at all, though much expense has been incurred in attempting it.

Kirkstall.-Boys.-The boys are in a fair state of discipline, under a very intelligent and skilful master. Their progress is moderate. The classes are too large; many very little children only fit for infant teaching. The ventilation is insufficient; the zinc plates get choked with the dust.

Girls.-The discipline is pleasing, under a mistress trained at Westminster, and progress fair. The heating apparatus is insufficient.

Eccleshill.-Boys.-There is a great want of better discipline here. The progress is small. The master is untrained ; was formerly a clothier. There is no separation between the offices for the boys and girls. The fence wall of the play ground is in bad repair.

Girls.-The progress and discipline are both of them fair. The mistress is a widow, who formerly assisted her husband in a private school.

Bradford, St. Jude's.-Boys.-Very fair discipline and respectable progress. The master was trained at York; seems earnest in his work. The school has only been open eight months. The rooms are insufficiently warmed. The offices are badly placed and dark.

Girls. This school is in a very low state, only nine girls on the books at present. The mistress (not a Churchwoman) is about to leave.

Infants. This school is progressing fairly. The room is not sufficiently warmed for the little ones, who are intelligent enough, but not clean and neat.

Bradford, New Leeds.-A mixed school of boys and girls, in a very poor state as to discipline, and very ignorant. The master is unskilled as a teacher; was formerly captain of a coasting vessel. The drainage of the building very deficient; the lower room cannot be used on account of the damp.

Lowmoor.-Infants.-A crowd of little ones, under a kind and mother-like mistress, wanting more room and better discipline. Some of the children too old for an infant school. Much need of two or three good monitors.

Daisy Hill.-A mixed school in four classes, under an untrained master, in a poor state of discipline, and low state as to progress. This school has been built in a bad situation for its object, and is not likely to be well attended. The rooms are inconveniently arranged.

Manningham-Boys.-Good discipline with tolerable progress in this school. The master seems much interested in his school. Perhaps too many subjects of instruction are attempted, considering the circumstances of the children. Girls. The girls are in good order, but making small progress. The mistress is kind to the children, but not skilful as a teacher. The hot-water warming apparatus is very insufficient. The schools are separated only by a low partition. Much noise from one to the other.

Stanningley, St. Thomas.-This school is not yet open as a daily school. The building is handsome, but not yet enclosed in front. There is a want of ventilation in the rooms.

Halton-Boys and Girls.-The boys and girls are in separate classes at different ends of the same room. has a good deal of knowledge, but wants method. The discipline of the school is poor, the progress tolerable. The warming apparatus (hot water) very inefficient.

Methley-Boys-The discipline and progress here are moderate. The master was trained at York for three years. Too much of the rote system in the school.

Girls.-The discipline is very pleasing, and the progress good. The mistress, trained at Whitelands, devoted to her work, and with good skill in teaching. Holy Scripture and the Catechism well taught. The room is inconvenient, part of a farm-building.

Lofthouse. Both the progress of the children and their state of discipline are fair. The master was trained at Westminster. The school has decreased in numbers since my last visit. There is no sewing mistress. The master's house is not inhabited.

Wrenthorpe.-Boys.-The boys are in four classes, under an untrained master (formerly a blanket-man), in a very poor state of discipline, and very ignorant, acquiring their little knowledge by rote. The payment of the teachers is miserable. No interest seems to be taken in this school by the resident clergyman.

Girls.-The girls are in the same state both as to discipline and progress as the boys. The mistress has little skill in teaching. She does not receive above 2s. per week for her labour. I have not seen the title-deed of these schools.

Batley Carr-Boys and Girls and Infants.-This is a mixed school, under a master trained at York. The children are making fair progress, and are in a tolerable state of discipline. The school has only been open six months. The infants are going on satisfactorily; the factory children are generally clean and neat.

Pudsey Low Town.-This is a mixed school, under an untrained but intelligent master, in a tolerable state of discipline, and making fair progress. There is a good play-ground, much intruded on by children not belonging to the school.

Gawthorpe.-About half of the attendants at this school are mill-children, in a fair state of discipline and progress. The master takes much pains, and has improved the school in the year that he has been in it. There is much want of a sewing-mistress. The master's house (underneath the school) is not inhabited.

Ardsley. The girls, with a few boys, are in a good state of discipline, but making moderate progress. The mistress was trained for a short time at York. The school is suffering from the effects of fever; of which there had been 150 cases in a population of 1200, and several children have died, chiefly in ill drained spots.

Hoyland, Sheffield.—A mixed school, under a master trained for a short time at York. The children are making fair progress, and in a satisfactory state of discipline. Two boys are learning algebra. The master seems to be a sensible man, and painstaking in his school. The building is not enclosed from the road, nor has it been conveyed for educational purposes, but is private property.

Monk Britton.- Boys.-Little, apparently, either of discipline or progress in this school, which is under an untrained master, of, I should think, little experience. The children are unpunctual in their attendance, and careless during prayer.

Girls.-The girls are in much the same state as the boys as to discipline, but not so far advanced in the subjects of instruction, which are chiefly taught them by the master; the mistress is his wife, not skilled in teaching. The girls' room is over the boys'. The floor between them seems to be too light.

Darfield.-Boys.-Bays, with a few girls in a separate class, under an untrained master; in a very poor state of discipline, and making little progress except in writing. No time table is kept. Everything seems to be learned by rote. Lessons are read "straight through," without questioning.

Girls.-Girls in a very fair state of discipline, and making satisfactory progress under an active and intelligent mistress. The children are too much crowded in class; generally very clean and neat. There is a want of maps, and generally of apparatus.
