4 In his falvation is our hope,

5

And in the name of God, the Lord,
Our troops fhall lift their banners up,
Our-fhips fhall fpread their flags abroad,
Some truft in horfes train'd for war,
And fome of chariots make their boast;
Our surest expectations are

From thee, the Lord of heavenly hofts.
6 Save us, O Lord, from guilty fear,
And let our hopes be firm and strong;
Till thy falvation shall appear,

And joy and triumph raise the fong.'

Pfalm XXI. Long Metre.
The Exaltation of Cbrift.

WATTS.

AVID rejoic'd in God his ftrength,
Rais'd to the throne by special grace ;
But Chrift the Son appears at length,
Fulfils the triumph and the praise.
2 How great is the Meffiah's joy
In the falvation of thy hand!

Lord, thou haft rais'd his kingdom high,
And giv'n the world to his command.
3 Thy goodness grants whate'er he will,
Nor doth the leaft requeft withhold;
Bleffings of love prevent him ftill,
And crowns of glory not of gold.
4 Honour and majefty divine

Around his facred temples fhine
Bleft with the favour of thy face,
And length of everlasting days.

Pfalm XXII. First Part. C. M. [b]

The Sufferings and Glory of Chrift.
OW, in the hour of deep diftress,
My God, fupport thy SON,

When horrors dark my foul opprefs,
O leave me not alone !"

2 Thus did our fuffering Saviour pray,
With mighty cries and tears;
God heard him in that dreadful day,
And chas'd away his fears.

3 Great was the victory of his death,
His throne exalted stands;
And all the nations of the carth
Shall bow to his commands.

4 A numerous offspring fhall reward
The Saviour's dying groans;
"I call them, faith the glorious Lord,
My daughters and my fons."

5 The meek and humble fouls fhall fee
His table richly spread;

And all that feek the Lord fhall be

With joys immortal fed.

Pfalm XXII. Second Part. L. M. [b] Chrift's Death and Refurrection.

N The dying forrows of our Lord;

OW let our mournful fongs record

When he complain'd in tears and blood,
Like one forfaken of his God.

2 The Jews beheld him thus forlorn,
And hook their heads, and laugh'd in fcorn;
"He refcu'd others from the grave,
"Now let him try himself to fave.

3

"Behold the man who did pretend
"God was his father and his friend;
"If God the blessed lov'd him fo,

"Why doth he fail to help him now?"
4 O harden'd people! cruel priests!
How they ftood round like favage beasts!
Like lions gaping to devour,

When God had put him in their power!
They wound his head, his hands, his feet,
Till ftreams of blood each other meet;
By lot his garments they divide,

And mock the pangs in which he dy❜d.
6 But God his Father heard his cry;
Rais'd from the dead, he reigns on high;
The nations learn his righteoufnefs,
And humble finners tafte his grace.

The rich, whom he with plenty feeds,
His goodncfs fhall confefs;

The fons of want, whom he relieves,
Their bounteous patron blefs.

With humble confidence to God
Let all for aid repair;

For he who first their beings gave,
Will make them ftill his care.

5 Bleft time when all of human birth
Devoted to his name,

Shall to their heirs, his facred truth
And glorious acts proclaim.

God's tender Gare of his People.

'HE Lord himself, the mighty Lord,
Is pleas'd to be my guide;

The Shepherd by whofe conftant care
My wants are all supply'ð.

2 In tender grass he makes me feed,
And gently there repofe ;

Then leads me to cool fhades, and where
Refreshing water flows.

3 He does my wand'ring feet reclaim,
And, to his endless praife,
Inftruct with humble zeal to walk
In his most righteous ways.

4 I'll pass the gloomy vale of death,
From fear and danger free;
For there his aiding rod and staff
Defend and comfort me.

5 With liberal and unceafing care,
He does my table spread;
He crowns my cup with cheerful wine,
With oil anoints my head.

6 Since God doth thus his wond'rous love
Through all my life extend,

That life to him I will devote,
And in his temple fpend.

God's tender Care of bis People.

HE Lord my fhepherd is,

Where heavenly pafture grows,
Where living waters gently pafs,
And full falvation flows.

And guides me in his own right way,

For his most holy name.

4 Whilst he affords his aid,

Tho' I fhould walk through death's dark flade,
My God is with me there.

5 In fight of all my foes,
He does my table fpread;
My cup with bleffings overflows,
And joy exalts my head.

6 The bounties of his love

Shall crown my future days;

Nor from his houfe will I remove,
Nor ceafe to fpeak his praife.
