Give the derivation and peculiar meaning of καταστείλας, and of νεώκορος.

9. Translate :-Περὶ πάντων ὧν ἐγκαλοῦμαι ὑπὸ Ἰουδαίων, κ. τ. λ. to ὑπὸ τῶν Ἰουδαίων. Cap. xxvi. 27.

(β) Sketch a map to illustrate this passage. How many, and what were the states of the Ionic body? What account does Herodotus give of the situation, climate, and public assembly of these states?

IV. (α) Translate:-Δεῖ δή με πρὸς τούτοισι ἔτι φράσαι, κ. τ. λ. to ἀσφάλτου ἀναδιδοῖ πολλούς. §. 179.

(β) (1) Give a short account of the life and death of Cyrus. In what remarkable manner is his name introduced in the Bible ? When, by whom, and under what circumstances was Babylon taken, according to Daniel?

(2) Explain the terms διαστῆναι, συμπεσεῖν, συνέχεσθαι, and συνεστάναι as applied to combatants. What part of the verb is συμέσταναι?

Explain the construction οἷς ἐποίησε.

Upon what grounds, and with what success, has the propriety of the title ἀνθύπατος, as here applied, been disputed? How does it affect the question of the genuineness of the Acts of the Apostles?

5. Translate :-Τινὲς δὲ τῶν Ἐπικουρείων, κ. τ. λ. to τὶ καὶ ἀκούειν καινότερον. Cap. xvii. 18-21.

Describe the two sects of philosophers mentioned in this passage. What is the derivation of σπερμολόγος ?

6. Translate :Ὁ δὲ Παῦλος ἔτι προσμείνας, κ. τ. λ. to διελέχθη τοῖς Ἰουδαίοις Cap. xviii. 18, 19.

Give the positions of Cenchrea and Ephesus by a map, or otherwise. 7. Translate : — Οἱ δὲ ἀκούσαντες ἐδόξαζον τὸν Κύριον, κ. τ. λ. to καὶ πνικτὸν καὶ πορνείαν. Cap. xxi. 20-25.

8. Translate :-Τὸν ἄνδρα τοῦτον συλληφθέντα, κ.τ.λ. to δεσμῶν ἔγκλημα ἔχοντα. Cap. xxiii. 27-29.

How was the freedom of the city of Rome obtained by the people of Tarsus? By what other name was Tarsus called?

9. Translate :Ὡς δὲ τεσσαρεσκαιδεκάτη νὺξ ἐγένετο, κ. τ. λ. to καὶ εΐασαν αὐτὴν ἐκπεσεῖν. Cap. xxvii. 27-32.

1. Translate :-Τὸν μὲν πρῶτον λόγον ἐποιησάμην, κ. τ. λ. to οὓς ἐξελέξατο, ἀνελήφθη. Cap. i. 1, 2.

What inference may be made from these verses with respect to the author of the history? When and where is the work supposed to have been written?

2. Translate :-Οἱ δὲ ἀκούσαντες διεπρίοντο, κ. τ. λ. to και θεομάχοι εὑρεθῆτε. Cap. v. 3339.

What is known of Γαμαλιήλ, Θένδας, and Ἰούδας ? What is the ἀπογραφὴ here spoken of ?

3. Translate: Ανοίξας δὲ Πέτρος τὸ στόμα εἶπεν, κ. τ. λ. to μετὰ τὸ βάπτισμα ὃ ἐ ἐκηρυξεν Ιωάννης. Cap. x. 3437.

Is Christ here to be understood by τὸν λόγον ? How are λόγον and ῥῆμα governed ?

4. Translate :-Γνωστὰ ἀπ' αἰῶνός, ἐστι, κ. τ. λ. to τοῦ πνικτοῦ καὶ τοῦ αἵματος. Cap. xv. 18-20.

Explain the construction τοῦ ἀπέχεσθαι. Why is πορνεία particularly specified?

5. Translate :-Εγένετο δὲ ἐν τῷ τὸν ̓Απολλὼ, κ. τ. λ. to τουτέστιν εἰς τὸν Χριστὸν Ἰησοῦν. Cap. xix. 1—4.

In what did John's baptism differ from Christ's? How does μeraνοία differ from μεταμελεία ?

6. Translate: - Δυνάμεις τε οὐ τὰς τυχούσας, κ. τ. λ. to τονηρὰ ἐξέρχεσθαι ἀπ' αὐτῶν. Cap. xix. 11, 12.

Derive σουδάρια, σιμικίνθια.

7. Translate:-Μέλλων τε εἰσάγεσθαι εἰς τὴν, κ. τ. λ. to τετρακισχιλίους ἄνδρας τῶν σικαρίων. Cap. xxi. 37, 38.

1. Define a circle and the centre of a circle. What do you understand by an angle in a segment?

2. The angles at the base of an isosceles triangle are equal to one another; and if the equal sides be produced, the angles upon the other side of the base shall be equal.

3. If from the ends of the sides of a triangle there be drawn two straight lines to a point within the triangle, these shall be less than the other two sides of the triangle but shall contain a greater angle.

4. The straight lines which join the extremities of two equal and parallel straight lines are themselves equal and parallel.

5. Describe a square upon a given straight line.

6. If a straight line be divided into any two parts, the rectangles contained by the whole and each of the parts are together equal to the of the whole line.

7. Divide a given straight line into two parts, so that the rectangle contained by the whole and one of the parts shall be equal to the square of the other part.

8. If in a circle two straight lines cut one another, which do not both pass through the centre, they do not bisect each other.

9. Equal straight lines in a circle are equally distant from the centre; and those which are equally distant from the centre, are equal to one another.

10. In equal circles equal angles stand upon equal circumferences whether they be at the centres or the circumferences.
