-Be it remembered that on this thirtieth day of September, in the year of our Lord one thousaud eight hundred and twenty-six, and in the fifty-first year of the Independence of the United States of America, Roswell C. Smith, of said District, deposited in this office the title of a book, the right whereof he claims, as author and proprietor, in the following words, to wit: "Practical and Mental Arithmetic, designed principally to accompany Daboll's system of Arithmetic, (and equally adapted to any other,) containing in a catechetical method all his rules, which are requisite to the solution of any sums ordinarily occurring in actual business, simplified with corresponding examples, to be answered by a mental process, without the aid of slate or paper, by Roswell C. Smith, associate principal, of North Main-street Academy."

In conformity to an act of the Congress of the United States, entitled "an act for the encouragement of learning, by securing the copies of maps, charts and books to the authors and proprietors of such copies, during the time therein mentioned," and also, to an act, entitled 66 an act supplementary to an act entitled an act for the encouragement of learning, by securing the copies of maps, charts, and books to the authors and proprietors of such copies during the time therein mentioned, and extending the benefits thereof to the arts of designing, engraving and etching historical and other prints."
