GEOGRAPHY.

IQ. WHAT is Geography?

A. A Description of the Earth.
2 Q. What is the Earth?

A. This World in which we live.
3 Q. What Shape is the Earth?

A. It is round like a Ball, as the Moon also appears at the Full.

4 Q. How large is the Earth?

A. It is more than twenty-four thous sand Miles round; and its Thickness or Diameter is about eight thousand Miles.

Q. How far is it from the Sun? A. Ninety-five millions of Miles. 6 Q. Doe's not the Sun move round the World every Day?

A. No; for though it appears to do so, it really standsstill; and the Earth turns round from West to East every twenty-four Hours; and thus produce's that Appearance, which we call the rising and setting of the Sun. 7 Q. What is the Earth composed of? A. Dry Land and Water.

8 Q. What Names are usually given to the Water?

4. Ponds, Lakes, Brooks, Rivers, Seas, Straits, Gulfs, and Oceans.

9 Q. What is a Pond?

A. A small Piece of Water in the Midst of dry Land.

10 Q. What is a Lake?

A. A very large Pond. Some Lakes

are several Miles long and wide.

11 Q. What is a Brook?

A. A narrow Stream of Water.
12 Q. What is a River?

A. A larger Stream, which runs a great many Miles, and at last reaches the Sea. 13 Q. What is a Sea?

A. A great Body of Water, which separates many Countries and Kingdoms: it is also different from other water, being salt to the Taste.

14 Q. What is a Strait?

A. A Narrow Channel from one Sea to another.

15 Q. What is a Gulf?

A. A Part of the Sea almost surrounded with Land.

16 Q. What is an Ocean?

A. A vastly large Sea, which Ships are many Weeks in crossing over.

17 Q. How is that Part of the Earth divided which is composed of dry Land? A. Into four Quarters: Europe, Asia, Africa, and America. And the main
