CORRESPONDENCE.

Hubert.-Your communication in reference to handwriting is now rather out of date. Send another for our next issue.

Crewe. Your handwriting only needs a little more compactness. 77 per cent.

Woodlesford, Leeds.-Essay on Gardening intelligent and of average quality. 63 per cent.

O. S. W., Sligo.-You make "slips" which press severely against you at an examination. You write "better that" for "better than." Nevertheless the essay is worth 50 per cent at least. The handwriting is very irregular, some of the letters being almost twice as large as others. Pay great attention to j, r, c, and s.

C. Hiley, Leeds.—In your handwriting dot the i's firmly, and not tremulously. About 64 per cent.

Nil Desperandum, Booterstown.-Writing much improved. Your name was crushed out in last issue; and it is not too late to tell you to try the Excise.

Venus.-We are glad to see such a marked improvement. Had we flattered you on the previous occasion to which you refer, you could not get the present mark, 65. Look to the orthography of the word accommodation-you leave out one m in the exercise before us. Cockermouth.-You will have no reason to complain of lateness on this occasion.

Marine, Suffolk.-Your handwriting is very boyish. Lean a little heavier on the pen, and try to write several letters without lifting it. Take more pains, and you will shortly write a very good hand. Essay 43.

Nichols' Square, Hackney Road.-The change in the date of our publication renders an answer to your enquiry unnecessary.

Newtownforbes.-Your handwriting is not clean enough. It looks almost as if a spider had raced over the paper several times. You must learn three things -(1) to write across the paper in a straight line, (2) to write on the face of the pen, (3) to use your blotting. pad and clean ink.

Candalaria.-You have written the dictation much too quickly, and though the spelling is good, the handwriting is below the average. Better leave the margin on the left hand side invariably. Your handwriting is very boyish and unfinished. Šay 38 per cent.

J. D., Kenmare.-You should learn to write on the face of your pen; the letters r, w,ƒ, and t, are badly formed mark at present about 50.

Portrane.-Any time your paper does not reach you punctually, kindly drop a post card; but you should give a few "days' of grace" to a scientific paper which can never be turned out with the punctuality of a common newspaper,

No. 50, Bandon. The papers for the Royal Irish Constabulary appear, from time to time, in The Com

petitor, as you may perceive on referring to another column. Your handwriting is rather careless and has a tendency to slope the wrong way. 50 per cent. Composition 40.

Edgeworthstown.-Notwithstanding the many times we have cautioned our friends against the pernicious habit of writing on the side of the pen, we find some still persist in the practice, amongst whom we regret to find the above correspondent. 45 per cent. Living in the country gives him an opportunity of seeing many small birds unknown to townsfolk, and he writes a fairly intelligent essay on this subject, 55. Fingal.-Sends a large number of fairly worked papers from our last number. He will see that we do not agree with him in every answer. Considering his youth the papers are creditable. Candidate, Leeds.-Should send a folio page as a specimen of handwriting. The letter is very well written, plain, and legible. Camberwell.-Attend chiefly to the clear forma. tion of the letters, particularly s8, b, x, and v; do not slope so much.
