ANS. 9. Why 9? Because 7 and 2 more make 9.

2. If Susan should gather 7 white lilies, and 4 primroses, for her brother, how many flowers of both kinds would she gather? Why?

3. Nancy has 8 yellow roses, and 2 dahlias, in her basket; how many flowers has she in all? Why?

4. Frank carried home to his mother 7 red pinks, and 5 white ones; how many pinks of both kinds did he carry home? Why?

5. Margaret has 8 flower-pots in one room, and 4 in another; how many has she in the two rooms? Why?

6. Susan paid 8 cents for three yards of blue ribbon, and 5 cents for a comb; how many cents did she pay for both? Why?

7. If a muff is worth 7 dollars, and a silk dress 7 dollars more, how many dollars are they both worth? Why?
