that it may be a glorious Church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it may be holy and without blemish.

Hear and answer our petitions, we humbly entreat thee, for the sake of Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

TUESDAY MORNING.

WE thank thee, O heavenly Father, that thou hast been pleased to bring us to the light of another day; may we this day glorify thee in all that we do and say. For it is in thee we live, and move, and have our being; and even during the unconscious hours of sleep, thy watchful eye is ever upon us, and

thy parental care is exerted for our welfare.

But blessed still more be thy holy Name that thou, who daily makest the outgoings of the morning to rejoice over us, hast been pleased to bless this world, and us its sinful inhabitants, with a far greater blessing of thy Son, Jesus Christ, who, made of a woman, made under the law, came to redeem them that were under the law, that we might receive the adoption of sons.

Thanks be unto thee, O Lord of heaven and earth, for this unspeakable gift, and do thou convince us of our need of it, and the glorious dispensation connected with it; so that the life, which we henceforth live, may be by the faith of him, who not only loved us, but gave his life a ransom for our sins. Herein is love, not that we loved

God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins. Beloved, if God so loved us, we ought also to love one another.

Grant to each of us not only faith to believe the records of thy word, but may they be the means of bringing down our pride, subduing our selfishness, improving our tempers, directing and restraining our tongues, and animating us with the purest zeal towards all mankind. May we be kind and affectionate one to another, sincere and upright in all our dealings, and diligent in our proper work. May we rejoice in every opportunity of doing good; and may we have grace to deny ourselves, that we may the more abundantly minister to the wants of others.

We pray thee, O Lord, to look down in compassion on all our friends and

relatives. Bestow upon them all things which thou knowest to be needful for them. Sustain and comfort them in this life; but especially, vouchsafe unto them the blessings of the life to come.

O God, who art the author of peace and lover of concord, in knowledge of whom standeth our eternal life, whose service is perfect freedom; defend us thy humble servants in all assaults of our enemies, that we, surely trusting in thy defence, may not fear the power of any adversaries, through the might of Jesus Christ our Lord. Our Father, which art, &c. The grace of our Lord, &c.

Amen.

TUESDAY EVENING.

O GOD, who art nigh unto such as call upon thee, yea, all such as call upon

thee faithfully, we beseech thee favourably to receive the prayers of thy humble servants, who now draw near unto thee this evening, through Jesus Christ thy beloved Son, to implore thy mercy and blessing, and to present unto thee the sacrifice of our thanks and praise.

Thou hast brought us to the conclusion of another day, and we desire in an especial manner to praise thee for the many and undeserved blessings, which we have received. It is of thy mercies, O Lord, that we are not consumed; because thy compassions fail not; and because we have an all-prevailing Advocate, ever living to make intercession for us.

Our misdeeds testify against us, and our trespass is grown unto the heavens, but thy mercy also reacheth to the
