and to come to the knowledge of the truth, as it is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

By the preaching of the Gospel do thou give us repentance; and blot out our transgressions for the sake of our Redeemer. We are the creatures of thy power, O make us the subjects of thy grace. Thou hast given us all things richly to enjoy; O bless us with all spiritual favours-favours for our souls and for eternity. Bless us with a present salvation, that being justified by faith, we may have peace with God, that the love and power of sin may be subdued in our hearts; that we may be dead to the world, alive to the glory of God, and disposed to serve our generation according to thy will.

Send out thy light and thy truth, O God of our salvation. Let them lead us, let them guide us, to thy holy hill

and to thy tabernacle. Bless this day the preaching of the Gospel, and while Paul plants, and Apollos waters, do thou give the increase.

May thy ministers be wise to win souls; and help those much which have believed through grace. Enable them to preach the word, in season and out of season; and to entreat with all fidelity and long-suffering. And may great grace rest upon ministers and people for the sake of Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

SUNDAY EVENING.

ALMIGHTY GOD, we again bow down at the footstool of mercy, to thank thee for the services and privileges of this

day. O pour down thy good Spirit upon us, that the thanksgiving we now present unto thee, may arise from truly grateful hearts, and that all thy lovingkindness may be sanctified to us for our eternal welfare.

We are the recipients of many favours, for which we ought to be thankful both in providence and grace, but this exceeds all the rest, the gift of thy Son. May we appreciate the gift, and may it be to us the savour of life unto life, and not of death unto death. We thank thee for the instructions of heavenly wisdom, which our Redeemer taught, and for the example which he has set before us; may those instructions make us wise unto salvation, and may we strive to follow his steps.

Accept, O Lord, our thanksgiving for the gift of thy word, the ordinances of

thy house, and the ministrations of thy servants. May these means and privileges guide our feet into the way of peace, and make us avoid the way that leadeth to destruction. Enable us all to remember what short-lived creatures we are, how uncertain and precarious life is whose we are, and whom we ought to serve. Man is continually going to his long home, and the mourners daily go about the streets. And we are all accomplishing, as a hireling, our day, and in a little time our neighbours, friends, and relatives, will seek us, and we shall not be found; so teach us, O God, to number our days, that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom; that wisdom which will lead us to prefer the soul to the body, and eternity to time; that wisdom which will lead us to secure

an interest in a better world, before we are removed from this.

O let not the trifles and vanities of this world induce us to neglect the one thing needful. While each of us is compelled to say, "I know thou wilt bring me to death, and to the house appointed for all living," may we be enabled also to say, "I know whom I have believed, and am persuaded that he is able to keep that which I have committed to him against that day.

Grant that the invitations and warnings, which we have heard this day, may be so grafted inwardly in all our hearts, that by the inward teaching of thy holy Spirit, they may be made a blessing to all our souls, and bring forth the fruits of holiness. As long as we are in this world, keep us from the evil; and may we be always alive to discharge
