1.-A grocer bought 3 wt., 1 qr., 14 lbs of sugar, at £1 17s. 4d. per cwt., and sold it again for £2 2s. per cwt.: what was the gain upon the whole?

2. Find the total value of 25 sheep, at £1 17s. 6d. each; 28 at £1 12s. 9d. each; and 7 at £1 15s. 4d. each: what is gained or lost by selling them at 7 for £12 12s.?

3. A person buys 15 yds. of cloth for £9, and sells 10 yds., at 15s, a yard, and the remainder, which is soiled, at 11s. a yard: find his gain.

4.-A huckster bought a box of oranges, containing 480 for a pound, and sold 300 of the best at 5 for 4d., and the remainder at 2 for 14d.: how much did he gain?

9. By selling goods at £1 6s. 3d., I gained 5 per cent.: find the prime cost. 10. For how much must an article be sold, which cost £50, so as to gain 15 per cent. ?

11.-A piece of carpet, containing 24 yds., was bought for £4 16s. : what must I sell it at per yard, so as to realize 25 per cent.?

12.-If I buy goods for £4 16s.: what must they be sold for that the loss may be 15 per cent.?

13.-If by selling a horse for £48, I lose 20 per cent.: what must I have sold him for so as to gain 5 per cent. ?

14. A grocer buys 1 cwt. of coffee, at 1s. 3d. per lb.; 2 cwt., 1 qr. at 1s. 1d. per lb.; and 2 stones, at 1s. 2d. per lb., and mixes them he sells 3 cwt. of the mixture at 1s. 3d. per lb.: what must he sell the remainder at a pound, in order to gain 25 per cent on his outlay?

15.-Oranges are sold at the rate of 5 for 2d. at what price must they have been bought to bring a profit of 20 per cent. ?

16. By selling an article for 15s., the seller loses 10 per cent.: what will be the gain or loss per cent., when sold for £1 Os. Od.?
