Precedent of Precedents; OR ONE GENERAL PRECEDENT FOR COMMON ASSURANCES BY DEEDS; MODERNIZED AND ADAPTED TO THE PRINCIPLES AND Conveyancing. P LE BODLI BY THOMAS WALTER WILLIAMS, ESQ. OF THE INNER TEMPLE, BARRISTER-AT-LAW. LONDON: PRINTED FOR GEORGE WIGHTMAN, FLEET STREET. INTRODUCTION. SHEPPARD, in his PRECEDENT OF PRECEDENTS, has given a brief Summary of the general Principles by which Deeds and common Assurances are governed, chiefly extracted from the TOUCHSTONE, of which he was the editor; and of which book the first edition was published in the year 1650, about twenty-two years after the death of Sir John Doddridge, the original author or compiler thereof.* This Summary was first published in the year 1655, about five years after the first edition of the TOUCHSTONE, and during the protectorate of the usurper Cromwell: and it * Sir John Doddridge, who was one of the Judges of the Court of King's Bench, departed this life on the 13th of September, 1628; and SHEPPARD having afterwards purchased his library, and found, among other books, the original manuscript of the TOUCHSTONE as compiled by this learned judge, (see Mr. Hilliard's address to the fourth edition of the TOUCHSTONE,) he afterwards published the same under his own name in 1650, one year after the accession of the regicides, by the melancholy martyrdom of King Charles 1. |
