MAY TERM, 1806, TO SEPTEM, SCHOOLLUSIVE. BY THE LIBRARY. HON. WILLIAM SANDFORD PENNINGTON, ONE OF THE JUSTICES OF SAID COURT, AND LATE SECOND EDITION. BY JOSIAH HARRISON, COUNSELLOR AT LAW. PRINTED BY J. HARRISON, CAMDEN, N. J., PREFACE. More than twenty years have elapsed since the publication of these Reports, in detached, coarse pamphlets, at various intervals of time; they have been for many years, beyond the reach of the numerous judicial officers, and the members of the bar, who have since, engaged in the busy scenes of the courts. He claims little credit for the execution of the task;the principal difference between this, and the former publication, consisting;-in references to other decisions, in our ewn, and other courts; for most of which, he thankfully acknowledges his obligation to the research and assistance of Thomas P. Carpenter, Esq., of Gloucester county:—in the correction of the numerous errors, mostly of the press, especially in the Orthography of names of cases; and for this, he is indebted to the friendly aid of General Rossell, Clerk of the Supreme Court;-in the head notes to the most important cases;-in a general, and he trusts, pretty full index to the principal matter, yet in the most concise form, within his conception; and lastly, in the uniform superiority of the mechanical execution of the work. It was first intended to publish the Reports in two volumes, but finding it could be comprised in one, of moderate size, it is offered in that, as a more convenient, and it is believed, more satisfactory form. This work nearly completes the chain of decisions, from the time when first authorized by our Legislature, to the present period:-Nearly so; but there are still wanting, two links in the chain; comprising the cases decided between the last date of these Reports, at September Term, 1813, and |
