against thy holy laws; We have left undone those things which we ought to have done; And we have done those things which we ought not to have done.-But thou, O LORD, have mercy upon us, repentant sinners. Spare thou those, O God, who confess their faults. Restore thou those who are penitent; According to thy promises declared unto mankind by Christ Jesus our Lord. And grant, O most merciful Father, that we may hereafter live a godly, righteous, and sober life, to the glory of thy holy name. Amen.

To be said by the Minister alone; all kneeling or standing.

ALMIGHTY and everlasting God,

who hatest nothing that thou hast made, and dost forgive the sins of all them that are penitent; create and make in us new and contrite hearts, that we, worthily lamenting our sins, and acknowledging our wretchedness, may obtain of thee, the God of all mercy, perfect remission and forgiveness, according to the gospel of thy Son Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

At the end of this and of all other Prayers, the word Amen is to be said by the Clerk and Congregation.

Then shall the Minister say,

PRAISE ye the LORD.

Answ. The LORD's name be praised. Raise up our hearts unto thee, O God! Answ. And our mouth shall shew forth thy praise.

¶ Then shall be read the Ten Commandments, taken from Deut. v. 6-21.

To be read by the Minister; all standing. GOD spake these words to the children

of Israel:

I. I am the LORD thy God, which brought thee out of the land of Egypt, from the house of bondage: Thou shalt have none other gods before me.

II. Thou shalt not make thee any graven image, or the likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the waters beneath the earth; Thou shalt not bow down thyself unto them, nor serve them : for I the LORD thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children, unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me ; and shewing mercy unto thousands of them that love me and keep my commandments.

III. Thou shalt not take the name of the LORD thy God in vain; for the LORD will not hold him guiltless that taketh his name in vain.

IV. Keep the sabbath-day to sanctify it as the LORD thy God hath commanded thee. Six days thou shalt labour, and do all thy work but the seventh day is the sabbath of the LORD thy God in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, nor thy man-servant, nor thy maid-servant, nor thine ox, nor thine ass, nor any of thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates: that thy man-servant and thy maid-servant may rest as well as thou. And remember that thou wast a servant in the land of Egypt, and that the LORD thy God brought thee out thence through a mighty hand, and by a stretched-out arm: therefore the LORD thy God commanded thee to keep the sabbath-day.

V. Honour thy father and thy mother, as the LORD thy God hath commanded thee; that thy days may be prolonged, and that it may go well with thee, in the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee.

VI. Thou shalt not kill.

VII. Neither shalt thou commit adul

tery.

VIII. Neither shalt thou steal.

IX. Neither shalt thou bear false witness against thy neighbour.

X. Neither shalt thou desire thy neighbour's wife, neither shalt thou covet thy neighbour's house, his field, or his manservant, or his maid-servant, his ox, or his ass, or any thing that is thy neighbour's.

Then shall be read the words of Christ-
Mark xii. 29-31.

Christ saith to his disciples:

"The first of all the commandments is, Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God is one LORD and thou shalt love the LORD thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength. This is the first commandment. And the second is like unto it; Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself there is none other commandment greater than these."

Remember not, LORD, our offences, nor the offences of our forefathers; and for the glory of thy name turn from us all those evils that we most justly have deserved. Spare us, good LORD, spare thy people; and have compassion on the work of thy hands.

Spare us, good "LORD.

From all evil and mischief, from sin, from dangerous temptations, from thy wrath, and from final condemnation ; Good LoRD, deliver us.

From all blindness of heart, from pride, vain-glory, and hypocrisy; from envy,
