laftly, that moft aftonishing and well-authenticated miracle of our Lord's refurrection, which was the feal and confirmation of his own Divine Origin, and that of his Religion; when all these various evidences are brought together, and impartially weighed, it feems hardly within the power of a fair and ingenuous mind to refift the impreffion of their united force. If fuch a combination of evidence as this is not fufficient to fatisfy an honest enquirer into truth, it is utterly impoffible, that any event, which paffed in former times, and which we did not fee with our own eyes, can ever be proved to have happened, by any degree of teftimony, whatever. It may fafely be affirmed, that no instance can be produced of any one fact or event, faid to have taken place in paft ages, and eftablished by fuch evidence as that on which the Christian Revelation refts, that afterwards turned out to be falfe. We challenge the enemies of our faith to bring forward, if they can, any fuch inftance. If they cannot, (and we know it to be impoffible) we have a right to say, that a religion fupported by fuch an extraordinary accumulation of evidence, must be true; and that all men, who pretend to be guided by argument and by proof, are bound, by the most facred obligations, to receive the religion of Chrift as a real revelation from God.
