DEAR CHRISTIAN BRETHREN,
apology, or assign some reason, for bringing forth a new version of the Psalms of David, when there are so many from the pens of men so far my superiors in piety, experience, and learning, already abroad in the world. I have only to say, that the glory of God, and of his Christ, my sole aim in this
bold and arduous undertaking; and the occasion of it was, by observa ing, that some of them seemed to ditter with themselves, and all with each other respecting the things which relate to, or expressly speak of, the redemption of the world by Christ Jesus the Lord. This determined me to take my dear Saviour's advice, and examine those sacred records of him in their original Hebrew. But O, what wonders of love did I there discover ! Glory to God in the highest! There I saw that the divine Father, from all eternity, had designed, and that his blessed Son would, in the fulness of time, compleatly accomplish the restoration of all fallen intelligences, according to that first gracious promise made unto Adam.
