A bill for "An Act concerning and to regulate policies issued by companies, corporations, associations, societies or other insurers, doing accident and casualty insurance business, and to repeal Acts or parts of Acts in conflict with this Act.'

Which amendments are as follows:

Mr. Barr offered the following resolution, and, on his motion, the rules were suspended and the resolution was taken up for consideration, and, on his motion, was unanimously adopted:

SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 69.

Resolved, That the services of the following officers and employees of the Senate be dispensed with after June 21, 1915:

All pages, bill distributors, clerks and secretaries of committees, except the Appropriation and Judiciary Committees, policemen, cloak-room janitors, superintendent of ventilation, all Senate stenographers except the one assigned to the Enrolling and Engrossing Department, to the President pro tempore and the Secretary and Executive Secretary of the Senate;

Resolved, That as authorized by law that 20 days extra time after the sine die adjournment be allowed to the Secretary of the Senate and the Journal and Executive Secretary of the Senate and the Enrolling and Engrossing Clerk 20 days time after the sine die adjournment at the per diem already allowed them.

To all the employees of the office of the Secretary of the Senate and the Law Secretary 20 days extra time after the sine die adjournment at the per diem now allowed them.

To the Postmistress and Assistant Postmistress, 5 days extra time after the sine die adjournment at the per diem now allowed them.

To the Postmistress and Assistant Postmistress the sum of $1 per day for extra services from January sixth to June eighteenth.

To F. W. Benjamin for services in caring for stock, $1.00 per day extra from January 6th to June 18th adjournment.

To Mrs. Grace Birkett for committee work services, the sum of $175. To J. H. Paddock for services rendered previous to the meeting of the Forty-ninth General Assembly in preparing blanks, blank books and doing other necessary work to be performed before the meeting of the General Assembly, the sum of $300.

To William L. Corris, official Senate Reporter, ten days extra pay after June eighteenth adjournment, for indexing and proof reading Senate debates and sending copies to members of the General Assembly.

To Tom Thompson pay from January sixth to March twenty-fifth, 1915,

at the per diem allowed him by law the sum of $192.50.

To the employees of the President of the Senate and the President pro tempore of the Senate, each 20 days extra time after sine die adjournment at the per diem now allowed them.

To T. F. Russell, assistant to the Secretary of the Senate, $10 per diem from January sixth to March twenty-fifth, less the amount already received for that period.

To Kate Kilcummings for extra services and overtime work as stenographer, $118.00 in office of law secretary.

To Katherine Koch for extra services for Senators as may be required, pay for 20 days after sine die adjournment at the per diem now allowed her. To A. E. Eden, for extra services for committee and sub-committee work, stenographers, etc., the sum of $500.00.

To Mrs. C. R. Hall, stenographer in the office of the Secretary of the Senate, one dollar a day extra, from April 15, 1915, to June 30, 1915, inclusive; $77.00.

To Daniel O'Connell, Jr., bill distributor, from April 1, 1915, to June 21, 1915, at $1.50 per day.

To Katherine Devere, extra services as stenographer for the Appropriation Committee, one dollar per day extra, from January 6, 1915, to June 21, 1915.

By unanimous consent, Mr. Denvir offered the following resolution, and, on his motion, the rules were suspended and the resolution taken up, and, on his motion, was adopted unanimously:

SENATE RESOLUTION No. 70.

Resolved, That the thanks of this Senate is hereby extended to Mrs. Adele H. Smith, Postmistress, and her assistant, Miss Gladys Womack, for the faithful and efficient manner in which they have performed their duties, and for the many courtesies which they have extended the members of this Senate.

By unanimous consent, Mr. Olson offered the following resolution, and, on his motion, the rules were suspended and the resolution taken up, and, on his motion, was adopted:

SENATE RESOLUTION No. 71.

WHEREAS, A certain bi-product of glucose, known as "corn flour" is being used as an adulterant in the manufacture of bread and other food products, the use of which, it seems, has no food value and is ostensibly a fraud upon the consumer and possibly detrimental to the public;

WHEREAS, A certain preliminary investigation has been made by some of the members of the standing committee in the Senate of the Forty-ninth General Assembly in respect to the matter herein contained, and it is deemed expedient on the part of the public and in the interest of health to make a thorough investigation of the matter herein; therefore,

Resolved, by the Senate of the State of Illinois, That a committee of five (5) Senators be appointed to investigate and inquire into the matters of the use and manufacture of corn flour as applied to the necessaries of life, and all matters in connection therewith, with a view of taking such steps as are necessary to preserve the public health;

Resolved, That the said committee shall have the power to employ assistants; and, be it further

Resolved, That the said committee shall continue its inquiry and investigation and report its recommendations together with any bill or bills to the Fiftieth General Assembly, and that the said committee shall receive no compensation, but shall be paid its actual expenses, and that an appropriation be made for the sum of one thousand dollars ($1,000) to meet the actual expenses of the said committee, as well as such assistants as may be necessarily employed by it, and that an appropriation in said sum be made by the General Assembly, and that all expenses necessarily incurred shall be paid on vouchers certified to by the chairman of the said committee and the President of the Senate.

Mr. President-I am directed to inform the Senate that the House of Representatives has acceded to the request of the Senate for a Committee of Conference to consider the differences btween the two Houses in regard to the Senate amendments to a bill of the following title, to wit:

HOUSE BILL No. 994.

A bill for "An Act to amend an Act entitled, 'An Act concerning fees and salaries, and to classify the several counties of this State with reference thereto,' approved March 29, 1872, in force July 1, 1872, and as amended; to amend and revise section three (3) of said Act."

I am further directed to inform the Senate that the Speaker of the House has appointed as such committee on the part of the House: Messrs. Davis, Shurtleff, Boyer, Browne, and Gorman.

We, the undersigned Committee of Conference, appointed to consider the differences between the two Houses, in relation to the Senate amendments to House Bill No. 931 for an Act making an appropriation for the payment of the officers and members of the next General Assembly, and for the salaries of certain officers and employees of the State government, beg leave to report that we recommend the following as the action to be taken by the Senate and the House of Representatives, respectively:

We recommend that the Senate recede from Amendment No. 2. Amend Amendment No. 1, lines 4 and 5, by striking out the words and figures "three million two hundred eleven thousand eight hundred thirtysix and 00-100 ($3,211,836.00)" and insert in lieu thereof the words and figures "three million, eight hundred seventy-three thousand, thirty-six and 00-100 ($3,873,036.00).”
