252. The subject of Percentage comprises operations in hundredths. Per cent., from the Latin per, by, and centum, hundred, signifies by the hundred; thus, 4 per cent. of any number cr quantity is of that number or quantity.

Any per cent. may be expressed as a decimal fraction, as a common fraction, or by the use of the following sign, %; thus,
