GEOGRAPHY.

[N.B.-Only six of the following Questions are required to be answered. Any six may be selected by the Candidate.]

1. Give a general description of the surface of Europe, and of its inland seas.

2. Name the principal towns and rivers of Holland.

3. Give the boundaries of England and Wales.

4. Mention the most important Irish rivers, also any great cities or towns situated on their banks.

5. Describe the manufactures of Scotland or Ireland.

6. Name the principal naval and commercial ports of England.

7. Write down in geographical order the counties of Scotland situated on the coast, with their principal towns.

8. Name the principal rivers of France, with any large towns situated on them.

9. Describe the following, and define their respective situations :

(a) Vienna, (d) Dnieper,
(b) Apennines, (e) Sicily,

(c) Prague, (f) Genoa,

(9) Maelar,

(h) Lisbon,
(k) Vesuvius.

10. Mention the most important exports of the united king

dom.

TUESDAY, June 18th.-Afternoon, 21 to 4.

ARITHMETIC.

1. Write in words the following:-25678, 200001, and 3040506. Add these together, and subtract from the sum of them, five hundred and five thousand five hundred and ten.

2. If an income of £371 pays Income Tax £10. 16s. 5d., what is the amount of the Tax per £.; and what has an income of £500 to pay?

3. Reduce 5 leagues, 2 furlongs, 70 yards, and 2 feet, to inches.→ 4. Multiply 4 oz. 7 drams 2 scruples 5 grains by 3; 9 oz. 7 drams 1 scruple 10 grains by 4; 4 lbs. 1 oz. 5 drams 1 scruple 10 grains by 17; and, supposing these quantities to represent three several drugs which are compounded together, find what part the first quantity is of the whole.

5. Define a Fraction. Distinguish between proper and improper, between simple and compound, fractions.

6. Add the fractions 1, 3, 2, 4, 5, 4, 1, §, 1%, and divide their sum by 2, reducing the result to its lowest terms.

7. Find the value of 2, 02, 002, 0002 respectively of a £. Add the four decimals together, and obtain the corresponding fraction to their sum in its lowest terms.

8. Divide a legacy of £5404. 10s. 6d. between the London, Guy's, and the Middlesex Hospitals, in the proportion of 3 to the 27025 first, 2 to the second, and 1 to the third-named. go middlesex

9. The half of a Medical Student's expenses are incurred for his board and lodging. The half of this sum (the former half) his clothes and journeys cost. A fifth part of the same sum goes for other personal expenses; and the remainder (£21. 1s. 6d.) his college fees amount to. Determine the whole amount, and the weekly average of his cost to his friends.

4. What was Magna Charta? Narrate some of its leading provisions.

5. Who was Wickliffe? What is his name noted for ?

6. State some of the causes which led to the Reformation in England.

7. What was the title of James I. to the crown ?

8. Mention some of the battles in which Marlborough was victorious in the reign of Queen Anne.

9. Explain the relationship of George I. to James I.

10. Name the sovereigns of England whose fathers had not occupied the throne.
