GREEK.

I. Translate into English :

*Ανδρες στρατιῶται, τὰ μὲν δὴ Κύρου δῆλον ὅτι οὕτως ἔχει πρὸς ἡμᾶς, ὥσπερ τὰ ἡμέτερα πρὸς ἐκεῖνον· οὔτε γὰρ ἡμεῖς ἔτι ἐκείνου στρατιῶται, (ἐπεί γε οὐ συνεπόμεθα αὐτῷ,) οὔτε ἐκεῖνος ἡμῖν ἔτι μισθοδότης. Οτι μέντοι ἀδικεῖσθαι νομίζει ὑφ ̓ ὑμῶν, οἶδα· ὥστε καὶ, μεταπεμπομένου αὐτοῦ, οὐκ ἐθέλω ἐλθεῖν, τὸ μὲν μέγιστον αἰσχυνόμενος, ὅτι σύνοιδα ἐμαυτῷ πάντα ἐψευσμένος αὐτόν· ἔπειτα δὲ καὶ δεδιώς, μὴ λαβών με δίκην ἐπιθῇ ὧν νομίζει ὑπ' ἐμοῦ ἠδικῆσθαι. Ἐμοὶ οὖν δοκεῖ οὐχ ὥρα εἶναι ἡμῖν καθεύδειν, οὐδ ̓ ἀμελεῖν ἡμῶν αὐτῶν, ἀλλὰ βουλεύεσθαι, ὅ,τι χρὴ ποιεῖν ἐκ τούτων.

II. Grammatical Questions.

1. Write out the persons of οἶδα. What is its imperative, infinitive, and participle?

2. Decline στρατιῶται, δεδιώς, ἐμαυτῷ.

3. The present, future, perfect, and aorist (active) of ἔχει, νομίζει, ἐψευσμένος, λαβών.

4. Parse fully μεταπεμπομένου, ἐπιθῇ, ὅ,τι.

5. What are the characteristics of the conjugations in Greek? Give examples of all of them that you can find in the extract.

6. What are the augments in the Greek verb, and when are they used ? Give examples.

4. How is Calomel prepared, and what is its formula ?

5. Give the composition by weight of Nitric Acid, Carbonic Oxide, and Sulphuric Acid.

6. Write out the symbols of the following bodies:-Caustic Potash, Chloride of Sodium, Alumina, Carbonate of Magnesium, Phosphoric Anhydride, Sulphuric Anhydride, Sulphuric Acid, Iodide of Potassium.
