REPORTS FROM STANDING COMMITTEES.

Mr. Swift, from the Committee on Community Welfare, to which was referred a bill, Senate Bill No. 275, for "An Act to amend sections 3, 4 and 8 of 'An Act in relation to vocation rehabilitation of persons injured in industry or otherwise,' approved June 28, 1921, and to add thereto section 112."

Reported the same back with the recommendation that the bill do pass, and that it be ordered to a first reading.

Under the rules, the bill was ordered to a first reading.

SENATE BILL No. 255.

A bill for "An Act to amend sections 2, 12, 13 and 14 of 'An Act in relation to State highways,' approved June 24, 1921, and to add section 14a thereto❞

Mr. Roos, from the Executive Committee, to which was referred the following resolution, reported the same back with the recommendation that it be adopted:

SENATE RESOLUTION No. 44.

WHEREAS, There are many fraudulent practices prevalent in the manufacture of ice cream, among which are the use of sour cream, rancid butter, skim milk, old fats and other substitute ingredients and as a result, a great portion of what is sold as ice cream is no more or less than a frozen mass of impure and germ laden substance containing no cream or other nutritious matter; and,

WHEREAS, It is of paramount importance that the health of the people of this State be protected by keeping harmful foods and products from being manufactured for public consumption; now therefore be it

Resolved, by the Senate of the Fifty-third General Assembly, That a committee of nine members of the Senate be appointed by the President on recommendation of the Executive Committee to investigate the manufacture of ice cream in this State including the methods employed, conditions in the factories, kinds of materials used and all other matters relating to that industry.

The committee hereby created shall report its conclusions and findings as expeditiously as may be, to the present General Assembly together with any recommendations as to the desirability or need for remedial legislation particularly with regard to the quality of the ingredients used in the manufacture of ice cream.

For the purpose of conducting such investigations, the committee is hereby empowered to subpoena witnesses under the signature of the chairman, place under oath and examine such witnesses, and to issue subpoenas for the production of such books, documents, papers, memoranda or matters as the committee deems necessary and pertinent in carrying out the objects and purposes of this resolution.

The members of the committee shall be entitled to their actual expenses incurred in the performance of the duties enjoined by this resolution.

Under the rules, the foregoing resolution was ordered placed on file. in the order of "consideration of resolutions.”
