Excerpt from An Act to Vary, Extend, and Consolidate the Powers of the Northern Assurance Company: And for Other Purposes Relating Thereto; Passed 19th June, 1865

Foreign Countries or States where the Company might be carrying on or might desire to carry on Business, and also for enabling the Company to delegate certain Powers to Agents for Colonial or Foreign Business, and for enlarging the Powers of Investment of the Company, and for other Purposes: And whereas the Company has carried on and is carrying on an extensive Business not only in Scotland but also in all Parts of the United Kingdom, and in many Colonies and Dependencies of Great Britain, and in many Foreign Countries and States: And whereas the Capital of the Company has been increased to the full Amount authorized by the said Acts, and now consists of Two million Pounds, in One hundred thousand Shares of' Twenty Pounds each, upon which One Pound per Share has been called up: And whereas under and by virtue of the said Acts the General Meetings of the Shareholders of the said Company are held at Aberdeen, and the general Management and Super intendence of the Affairs of the Company is vested in the General Board at Aberdeen.
