His paternal love is my solace, my staff and support, and on it I rest my hope for thy eternal destiny. As a father pitieth his children, may He look with compassion upon thee, and cause thy portion ever to be a delightful one. Amen.

I

In Memory of Brothers, Sisters and Other Relatives.

REMEMBER thee in this solemn hour, my beloved brother-sister-friend-I remember the days when we lived together in one happy family circle, and thy love and friendship were my delight and support. Now thou slumberest in the grave, but thy image has not vanished from me. I think of thee with gratitude and bless thy memory for all the kindness thou hast shown unto me. May God bless thee with everlasting joy, may He cover thee with the shadow of His grace, and give thee eternal peace! Amen.

Minister:

WE remember with sorrowing hearts those whom

death has taken from our midst during the

[blocks in formation]

O God, send Thy heavenly comfort to them who are bowed down in mourning and affliction. May they rest their troubled hearts, find consolation in their faith in Thee, merciful Father, and may Thy love be with them and announce peace to those who are nigh, and to those who are departed! Amen.

(Congregation standing.)

EXTOLLED and hallowed be the name of God

throughout the world which He has created, and which He governs according to His righteous will. Just is He in all His ways, and wise are all His decrees. May His Kingdom come, and His will be done in all the earth.

Congregation:

Blessed be the Lord of life and righteous Judge for

ever more.

Minister:

To the departed whom we now remember, may peace and bliss be granted in the world of eternal life. There may they find grace and mercy before the Lord of heaven and earth. May their souls rejoice in that ineffable good which God has laid up for those that fear Him, and may their memory be a blessing unto those that cherish it.

Congregation:

Amen.

Minister:

May the Father of peace send peace to all troubled souls, and comfort all the bereaved among us.

Choir:

HY glory, Lord, surroundeth The souls of saintly mortals, And angel's music soundeth

From heaven's open portals,

To pious pilgrims greeting
At dawn of life's new morning.

All earthly bodies perish;

The soul, the Father's image,

Defieth all corruption;

Is like Himself, eternal;

Though orbs from skies may sever, The soul lives on forever.

Hallelujah!

Concluding Service for the

Day of Atonement.

Minister and Congregation:

(Psalm xxxii.)

HAPPY is he whose transgression is forgiven,

whose sin is pardoned.

Happy the man to whom the Lord imputeth not iniquity, and in whose spirit there is no guile. While I kept silence, my bones were wasted, by reason of my groaning all the day long.

For day and night Thy hand was heavy upon me; my strength dried up, as in summer's drought. At length I acknowledged to Thee my sin, and did not hide mine iniquity.

I said: I will confess my transgressions to the Lord; and Thou forgavest the iniquity of my sin.

Therefore shall every pious man pray to Thee, while Thou mayest be found.

Surely, the floods of great waters shall not come near him.

Thou art my hiding-place; Thou preservest me from

trouble;
