PARTING BENEDICTIONS.

HE Lord our God be with us, and bless us with

THE

His peace. The favor of the Lord be upon this land from the beginning of the year even to the end thereof. Our help cometh from the Lord who made heaven and earth.

The Lord is our guardian; He will not leave us, nor forsake us. Preserve us, O God, from all evil; watch over our going out and our coming in; preserve our life and our peace, from this time forth and for ever more.

Lord, give strength unto Thy people, bless Thy people with peace. Thy peace be in our houses, that love may abound, and in this congregation, that no discord dwell among brethren. Thy peace be unto this city, unto our country, unto all men.

Praised be the Lord daily, for He hath shown us His wonderful kindness. Be of good courage; let your hearts be strong, all ye who trust in the Lord. Let all who seek Thee be glad and rejoice in Thee. Let those who love Thy protection ever rejoice in Thy help.

Morning Service for the New Year.

For Silent Devotion.

PRAISE the Lord, O my soul. I will praise the Lord as long as I live, I will sing praises to my

God, while I have my being. He is God everlasting, Creator of all things in this vast universe which change according to His decrees. By His will all strength and power must some time come to naught. The mighty trees of the forest are uprooted, mountains crumble into dust. And amidst these changes ordained by Him, man does not abide. Even the strongest and wisest return unto the dust whence they came. Therefore, shall not the wise man glory in his wisdom, nor shall the mighty man glory in his might, nor shall the rich man glory in his riches; but let him that glories, glory in this, that he understands and knows God in that He is the Lord who exercises loving-kindness, judgment and righteousness. God is the giver of all good, and unto Him all praise is due. Surveying the endless ages and the countless worlds, He alone doth not change. Generation after generation shall

pass away; even the sun, moon and stars shall disappear, but the Lord of hosts shall never change.

And merciful is He unto all His children. There fore, do we turn to Him alone in our weakness, of which we become conscious when we see the heavens, the work of His hands. Then we ask: O God, what is man, that Thou rememberest him, and the son of man that Thou art mindful of him? And when our courage sinks and our own strength cannot sustain us, we look beseechingly to Thee, our Father, our help in time of need, our rock and our refuge.

As we witness changes in the world Thou hast created, even so do we experience changes in our own lives. We feel that day by day, and year by year, we are hastening ever nearer to our earthly goal. But we are sustained by the abiding hope Thou hast implanted within us, that our souls are immortal and that Thine image within us shall never die. O God, make us worthy of so great a gift; strengthen our faith in Thee and reveal Thyself to our hearts. pel the darkness which often hides Thy light, that we may ever know our Father in heaven. When our reason, struggling to overcome doubt and perplexity, is sorely troubled, O come Thou and help us. When, tried by sorrow, our hearts cannot feel Thy presence, O lift the clouds from us, and let us feel that Thou art nigh unto every soul that trusts in Thee.

Fervently do we supplicate Thee to strengthen and to guide us in the coming year. Vouchsafe unto us

a continuance of Thy mercy. Bless the work of our hands. Sanctify the thoughts and aspirations of our minds. Surround us with Thy protection in our coming and our going, in our labor and our rest, even in the joys that gladden, and the sorrows that afflict us. Let the fulness of thy grace abide with us.

Our Father, bring nigh unto our minds the lessons of the flight of time. May this hour teach us to make good use of the days granted us here on earth. May we henceforth be stirred to greater earnestness, to greater zeal in the cause of truth, justice and charity. O God, we pray Thee, make us rich in virtue and holiness, and bring us nigh unto the fulfilment of our divine destiny. May it be Thy will to grant us life, and to help us to use it worthily. Support us through our allotted time on earth, strengthen us in our tasks and trials; sustain us amid the changing events of joy and sorrow, O Thou, who art our refuge and stay in time and eternity. May the words of our mouth and the meditations of our heart be acceptable before Thee, our rock and our redeemer. Amen.
