In many cases there are exhibitions or prizes, of greater or less value, by which capable students may re-earn a large proportion of their expenses.

* At Carmarthen, a Queen's Scholar, besides being entirely provided for during his course of two years, has an opportunity, of gaining, by a competitive examination, one of eight exhibitions, in each year, varying in value from £ 10 to £3.
+ There are exhibitions for each year, varying in value from £10 to £5. Private students, i.e., those who have not passed the scholarship examina tion, may enter the college for £40 per annum.
