30. Hygiene.-The candidate must show acquaintance with the principles of Hygiene or Public Health as comprised under the following heads-Personal Hygiene; air and ventilation; water and water-supply; influence of climate and soil on health; clothing; physical education; the dwelling; food, its adulterations and inspection; disposal of sewage and refuse; hygiene of hospitals; noxious trades; the etiology of infectious diseases; smallpox; disposal of the dead. Books recommended: Parkes Hygiene and Public Health; Wynter Blyth's Manual of Public Health; Willoughby's Handbook of Public Health and Demography; A Treatise on Hygiene and Public Health, edited by Stevenson and Murphy.

(N.B.-This Subject cannot be taken until the Candidate has passed the L.L.A. Examination both in Chemistry and Physiology.)

EXAMINATION QUESTIONS.

The Examination Questions of previous years may be had or application to the Secretary of the L.L.A. Scheme, the University, St Andrews, at the following prices: 1878 and 1879, 7d. each ; 1885, 11d. each; 1888, 1891, 1892, 1894, 1s. 2d. each; 1899, 1900, and 1901, 1s. 24d. each, postage inclusive. The Calendars for 1880-1884, 1886, 1887, 1889, 1890, 1893, 1895-1898, are out of print; and as the others are nearly exhausted, early application by those who wish copies is desirable.

LECTURE, EXPLANATORY OF THE SCHEME.

This Lecture, by Professor Knight (price 3d., by post 4d.), is published by the Messrs Blackwood in the form of a pamphlet, entitled 'The Higher Education of Women, with Special Reference to the St Andrews University L.L.A. Examination and Diploma.' It may be had from the Secretary, L.L.A. Scheme, St Andrews.

HISTORICAL SKETCH.

A History of the Origin and Development of the L.L.A. Scheme, by Professor Knight, may also be had from the Secretary, price 7d. post free.

CORRESPONDENCE CLASSES.

ST GEORGE'S CORRESPONDENCE CLASSES,
EDINBURGH.

Correspondence Tuition for the L.L.A. Examination of the University of St Andrews will be resumed on 20th September 1901. The staff consists of specialists, who hold high University distinctions, and have had long experience in postal tuition. Individual care and attention are special features of the system.

The subjects taught include, - English and Anglo-Saxon, Latin, Greek, French, German, Italian, Logic and Metaphysics, Moral Philosophy, Political Economy, Comparative Religion, Mathematics, Physiology, Botany, Geology, Education, History, Fine Art, and Geography. Other subjects may be added if applied for before the Session opens. Course in Botany, introductory to L.L.A. work, will be conducted. A Special Preparatory in June and July 1901.
