CIVIL SERVICE EXAMINATIONS

TUITION BY CORRESPONDENCE.

THE HE CIVIL SERVICE EXAMINATION AGENCY is exclusively engaged in preparing Candidates by Correspondence for MEN CLERKSHIPS, FEMALE CLERKSHIPS, BOY CLERKSHIPS, ASSISTANTS OF EXCISE, OUTDOOR OFFICERS OF CUSTOMS, and COPYISTS. A complete course of preparation, extending over a period of Eight Weeks, for ONE GUINEA, or pupils can receive instruction until successful for a stipulated fee. No extra charge is made for postage or stationery, as all fees are inclusive. Individual attention-each pupil having as much work set him as he has shown himself able to do. Students can commence on any date. They can join with the merest rudiments of knowledge, being brought by easy stages through all the various subjects. They are not handed over to Assistants but are all taught by the Secretary himself, who is a Civil Servant, and has won his appointment by competition. The testing is conducted by complete sets of actual papers, set at previous competitions. The perfection of the system used is shown by the great success which attends the pupils of the Agency. Candidates are advised as to the best examinations for which they are suited. Original testimonials may be inspected, and reference may be made to former pupils now in the Service in all parts of the United Kingdom. Numerous recent genuine successes, including 9th, 18th, 23rd, 28th, 33rd, 35th, 36th (twice), &c., for Men Clerks; 3rd, 8th, 9th, 37th, 40th, 41st, for Boy Clerks: 6th, 11th, 16th, 27th, 34th, 38th. &c., for Excise; 2nd, 6th, 12th (twice). 31st, 36th, &c., for Customs. On several occasions all sent up were successful. This high percentage of passes cannot be equalled by any similar tutor. Prospectus, with full particulars, dates of approaching competitions, and list of successes, post free on application to the SECRETARY, CIVIL SERVICE EXAMINATION AGENCY, NUNHEAD, LONDON.

CIVIL SERVICE LONG AND CROSS TOTS published by the Agency, price One Shilling (sent post free by the Secretary for 13 stamps), is a compilation of the actual exercises set by the Civil Service Examiners during the last three years. Being the only Book of its kind possessing this advantage it is needless to say that it is indispensable to all candidates. It contains nearly three hundred exercises, with answers.

IMPORTANT NOTICE.-In the October 1883 Examination for Men Clerkships, the students of the Agency won more situations than those of any other similar tutor throughout the United Kingdom, without exception.

CIVIL SERVICE EXAMINATIONS.

THE

TUITION BY CORRESPONDENCE.

HE CIVIL SERVICE TUTORS (of H. M. C. S.) rapidly and successfully prepare candidates by Correspondence for Clerkships (Men, Boy, Female), Excise, Customs, Copyists, &c. Special classes form for all Examinations. The system adopted is one which ensures individual care and attention to every pupil. Papers previously given at Civil Service Examinations, and lithographed papers, are forwarded to candidates to work, and their solutions of the same are carefully corrected, marked, and returned without delay. All difficulties are explained; and hints are given to candidates as to the course of study to pursue to pass the Examination. Pupils are not limited to one or two lessons a week, but are given as much work as they are able to perform, thus making it impossible for an industrious candidate to fail. Every candidate is given lessons suited to his or her requirements, and all possible assistance is rendered. The fees are moderate, and the result system may be adopted if preferred.

Prospectus, notices of forthcoming Examinations, &c., may be obtained on application to the CIVIL SERVICE TUTORS, 70, TRAFALGAR SQUARE, SCARBOROUGH.

FROM "THE CIVILIAN," 1ST DECEMBER, 1883.

The young Civil Servant, no matter what may be the state of his pocket, has to assume and maintain the appearance of a gentleman. But, be this as it may, there is no more occasion for a Civil Servant to "wear his heart upon his sleeve" than for some of those who live in high places to do so. It is a well-known fact that if all the jewellery worn at the Drawing-Rooms had to pass an official test a good many names would be absent from the list of those who had the honour of kissing hands. Such being the case, it would be an uncalled-for piece of self-denial and a doubtful act of economy for Civil Servants, with their distinctions in the way of salaries, and unlimited demands upon limited means, to forego the possession of a watch or other article of jewellery, until their means would justify the purchase of nothing but the genuine article. These remarks are particularly appropriate in connection with an illustrated catalogne we have received showing forth the many and wonderful designs obtainable in oroide jowellery, and manufactured by Mr. C. C. Rowe, of No. 92, Brompton Road. It is questionable if anyone, without the aid of chemicals, could notice the least difference; in fact; the probabilities are that the Oroide would be selected as the real gold. Accurate timekeepers, having the appearance of 20-guinea watches, are produced at 50s. There are so many things equally deserving of notice that we must recommend a visit, which we are sure will be gratifying.
