THE CIVIL SERVICE YEAR BOOK AND OFFICIAL CALENDAR. 1884. BODLEIAN LIBRARY 220CT 84 OXFORD. LONDON: SHEPPARD & ST. JOHN, 6, ST. BRIDE STREET, LUDGATE CIRCUS, E.C. 1884. PREFACE. THE PUBLISHERS once more submit to the Public their annual issue of the CIVIL SERVICE YEAR BOOK. The information contained in the Book has been corrected to date; and the Publishers desire to acknowledge the courtesy of the heads of the chief Government departments who have kindly furnished them with the very latest information, so that the Book might be as accurate as it is possible to make it up to the date of publication. Fresh sets of examination papers are given; and the examination papers for the post of Assistant Surveyor of Taxes (which were published for the first time in the last Report of the Civil Service Commissioners) are now added. The acknowledgments of the Publishers are due to Mr. G. C. Harcourt for the assistance he has rendered in producing a volume which will, it is believed, be found not only an indispensable guide to Candidates, but a valuable book of reference for members of all branches of the Service. 1 Tu Married Women's Property Act came into force, 1883 Dog Licences to be taken out 2 W 3 TH G.
