[blocks in formation]

weary wanderers, now draw near,,
That know no folid peace or reft,.
Lay by your doubt and anxious fear,-
And lean upon the Saviour's breast;
All's ftolen fruit that can be found,
To chear the fouls on nature's ground.

2 Come, for the gofpel bids you come ;
Jefus for finners bled and dy'd;

The facred word reports there's room,
The Lamb fhall take you for his bride.
Your fouls fhall find a refting place,
In arms of everlasting grace.

TOW may the fpirit's holy fire,
Defcending from above;

His waiting family inspire

With joy and peace and love!

2 Thee, we the comforter confefs,
Unless thou'rt present here,

Our fongs of praise are vain address,
We utter heartless prayer:

3

Wake heav'nly wind arise and come,
Blow on the drooping field;

Our fpices then shall breathe perfume,
And fragrant incenfe yield.

4 Touch

4 Touch with a living coal the lip,
That fhall proclaim thy word,
And bid each awful hearer keep
Attention to the Lord.

IX. Another.

NCE more we come before our God,
Once more his bleffing ask ;

O may not duty feem a load,

Nor worship prove a tafk.

2 Father, thy quickening fpirit fend,
From heaven in Jefu's name,
To make our waiting minds attend,
And put our fouls in frame.

3. May we receive the word we hear,
Each in an honeft heart;

Hoard up the precious treasure there,
And never with it part!

4 To seek thee all our hearts difpofe,
To each thy bleffing suit;
And let the feed thy fervant fows,
Produce abundant fruit.

5 Bid the refreshing north-wind wake;
Say to the fouth-wind blow;
Let every plant the pow'r partake,
And all the garden grow.

6 Revive

6 Revive the parch'd with heav'nly showers,
The cold with warmth divine;
And, as the benefit is ours,
Be all the glory thine..

X. Reading or hearing

Scriptures.

God of wisdom, God of might,
Great ruler in the realms of light

Whofe truths are hid from prudent eyes,
But make the babe and fuckling wife;.
Help thy un-knowing fervants Lord,..
To understand thy facred word...

2. Reveal thy fcriptures to our mind,
Here let us heav'nly treafures find,,
To us thy facred leaves unfold,

Let us thy richest grace behold;, O let thy fpirit lead us forth,.

3

And teach us all it's endlefs worth..

Direct us left we judge amiss.

Left error cloud the hidden blifs;
We would th' ingrafted word receive,.
And back to thee the glory give.
O make us know, Omake us hear,
The glorious tidings treasured there..

XI. After Speaking.

ITH heart and voice unfeign'd,

W We praise thee for thy word;

We bless thee for the joyful news,
Of our redeeming Lord.

2 Like as the kindly rain,

Returns not back to heaven,

But chears, and fruitful makes the earth The end for which 'twas given:

3 Water thy facred feed,

And give it large increafe ;:

Let neither fowls nor rocks, nor thorns,

Hinder the fruits of peace...

XII. Ifaiah xl. 29.

SON

CON of God, thy bleffing grant,
Still fupply my every want,
Tree of life! thine influence shed,
With thy fap, my spirit feed.

2 Tend'reft branch, alas! am I,
With'ring without thee, lo! I die;
Weak, as helpless, infancy;
O confirm my foul in thee.

3 Unfuftain'd by thee, I fall,
Send the ftrength for which I call!
Weaker than a bruifed reed,

Help I every moment need.

4 All my hopes on thee depend,
Love me, fave me, to the end!
Give me the continuing grace;
Take the everlasting praise!

Breathing after Holiness.

That the Lord would guide my ways,
To keep his ftatutes ftill!

O that my God would grant me grace,
To know and do his will!

2 Lord, fend thy fpirit down to write
Thy law upon my heart;
Nor let my tongue indulge deceit,
Nor act the liar's part:

3 From vanity turn off my eyes,
Let no corrupt defign;
Nor covetous defires arife

Within this foul of mine.

4 Order my footsteps by thy word,
And make my heart fincere,
Let fin have no dominion Lord,
But keep my confcience clear.

5 Make me to walk in thy commands,
"Tis a delightful road;

Nor let my head, or heart, or hands,

Offend againft my God.
