N.B.-In forming a proportion as in the above examples the stock is considered (what in many cases it was) as money, though of a different intrinsic value to the sterling money.

In some questions, two or more separate operations may be required.

Ex. (7) What alteration would be made in income by the transfer of £2915 from the 3 per cents. at 88, to India 5 per cents. at 106?

In this question, three things must be determined,

(1) the original income in the 3 per cents.,

(2) the value in sterling money of the stock when sold out,

(3) The income which this money will produce when invested in the 5 per cents.
