Tbeing an ufual Complaint with thofe who are unacquainted with Geometry, that they are difcouraged by the Mathematical Demonftrations, from perufsing Books of Natural Philofophy; I apprehended that fome Papers I had drawn up for the Use of my Pupils in the Univerfity, would not be altogether unacceptable, if published in fuch Form, that the Propofitions, or Subftance of the Book, might be read without Interruption from the Mathematical DemonAtrations. And therefore after a large Explanation, and fometimes an Illuf tration alfo, of the Particulars, as occafion feemed most to require, I have endeavoured to fhew the Truth of them, in a familiar and popular Manner, without Geometry, by way of Text: And
