1. What is the difference between Deductive and Inductive Reasoning? What are the uses of Deductive Reasoning in scientific inquiry?

2. Point out the nature and explain the genesis of the Concept. "I see this tree." Point out here what is due to Perception and what to Conception.

3. Give Whately's classification of Judgments. Show how it an be amended and supplemented.

4. Distinguish Categorical, Conditional, and Disjunctive Reasonings. Give an example of each, and point out the law which regulates each.

5. Give Whately's classification of the Fallacies. Select one from each class, and explain its nature.

6. Explain precisely the distinction between Immediate and Mediate Knowledge. Illustrate it, and answer criticisms of the doctrine.

7. Explain precisely the theories of Perception known as Natural Realism and Inferential Realism. Add remarks.

8. Show how Language is an aid to Thought.

9. What was the contradiction which Hume sought to establish in Knowledge? Add remarks.

10. Explain Extension and Comprehension in Concepts, and state the law regulating their relation. Illustrate it.

11. Give a brief account of the aim and method of Descartes in Philosophy.

12. Do the same with regard to Bacon.

NATURAL PHILOSOPHY.

1. State the laws of falling bodies. Define kinetic energy. Prove that the kinetic energy gained by a body falling freely is equal to the work done by the force of gravity on the falling body.

2. A weight of 2 lbs. attached to a string is whirled round in a vertical circle six times per second. Find the tension of the string at the highest and lowest points of the circle. 3. Define moment of a force about a point. Prove that the moments of two forces about any point on the line of their resultant are equal and opposite.

4. State the laws of electrostatic attraction and repulsion. Describe very briefly experiments to show electrostatic induction. Define specific inductive capacity.

5. Describe the electrophorus, and explain its action.

6. Describe experiments for showing contact electricity of metals. Give an explanation of the action of the voltaic pile, showing in what direction the current passes.

7. State Ohm's law. Find the current transmitted through an external resistance of ten ohms by eight Daniell's cells in series, having an electromotive force of one volt per cell, and an internal resistance of a quarter of an ohm each. Find also the work done by the current in kilogramme

metres.

8. Define stress, strain, modulus of elasticity. Define also Young's modulus. What is meant by the length of a modulus ?

9. What is meant by viscosity of a fluid? Describe an experiment for the purpose of comparing the viscosities of different liquids.

10. Two points, A and B, are in the same horizontal line, 5 feet apart. A weight of 60 lbs. is attached 3 feet from one end of a cord 7 feet long, and 4 feet from the other end, and the extremities of the cord are attached to A and B. Find the tensions in the strings.

11. Four particles, 4 lbs., 5 lbs., 6 lbs., and 7 lbs., are attached at the four corners of a weightless square frame, the length of a side of the square being 3 feet. Find the moment of inertia about the middle point of the square.
