Prizes. There are seven Prizes attached to the College and awarded in accordance with the following Regulations : The Sir James Fergusson Prize. A Prize, entitled "The Sir James Fergusson Prize," consisting of books of the value of Rs. 50, shall be awarded every year to the student from the Fergusson College who shall have obtained the highest number of marks in the Previous Examination of the University of Bombay, provided he obtains at least 45 per cent. of the aggregate number of marks, and provided that he shall have attended the said College for one academical year. The Gulve Prize. A Prize, entitled "The Gulve Prize," consisting of books of the value of Rs. 20, shall be awarded every year to the student from the Fergusson College who passes the Intermediate Examination of the University of Bombay with the highest number of marks in Natural Science, provided that he shall have attended the said College for one academical year, and provided also that he obtain at least 50 per cent. of the maximum number of marks assigned to that subject. 2. In case in any year the Prize be not awarded in the above subject it shall be given to the student from the Fergusson College who passes with the highest number of marks in Mathematics (Algebra and Euclid) subject to the conditions mentioned above. The Janardan Gopal Prize. Mr. Janardan Gopal, Solicitor, Bombay, has placed at the disposal of the Society a sum of Rs. 1,500 in the 4 per cent. (Bombay Port Trust Bonds) to found a prize, called "Janardan Gopal Prize," of Rs. 60 to be awarded to a student who passes his Previous Examination from the Fergusson College with the highest number of marks in English. Bhatavadekar Prize. A sum of Rs. 1,000 having been placed at the disposal of the Society by Dr. Bhalchandra Krishna Bhatavadekar of Bombay to found a prize in the Fergusson College in the name of his brother, the late Rao Bahadur Gajanan Krishna Bhatavadekar, a prize of the value of Rs. 35 called the "Gajanan Krishna Bhatavadekar Prize" is awarded every year to the student who writes the best essay on a subject specially selected for the purpose. C. N. Apte Prizes. Two prizes, each of Rs. 25, have been founded in the College by Mr. V. N. Apte of Poona in the name of his late brother C. N. Apte. One of them is awarded to a student of the I. E. Class who stands first in the Terminal Examination, and the other to a student who stands first in the B.A. Class in that Examination. Jankibai Limaye Scholarship. This Scholarship, worth Rs. 5 per mensem, was founded to perpetuate the name of Jankibai Limaye Nargundkar by her grandson Mr. P. B. Kale, Phadnis of Jamkhindi. A scholarship of the above name is given to a student of the College who passes his Matriculation from the Jamkhindi High School and who is recommended by Mr. P. B. Kale. The scholar is also made a free student. Khatav Makanji Prize. A sum of Rs. 2,500 having been placed by Shet Govardhandas Khata▾ Makanji at the disposal of the D. E. Society for founding in the Fergusson College a prize in memory of his father, a prize named "The Khatav Makanji Prize" is annually awarded to the student who passes his Previous Examination from the Fergusson College with the highest number of marks in the 1st Class and continues his studies for the Intermediate Examination in the College, and failing such student to any other student who in the opinion of the common room of the College brings the greatest credit to the institution in the University Examination. The sum of Rs. 2,500 is at present deposited at 6 per cent. interest per annum in one of the mills with which Shet Govardhandas is connected, and while it continues to be so deposited, the prize shall be of the value of Rs. 150. 1902. (RECOGNIZED 1885.) This College was founded by His Highness Sir Takhatsingji Jasvantsingji, G.C.S.I., LL.D., the late Maharaja Saheb of Bhavnagar, in memory of his late Diwan Samaldas Parmanandas. The College was opened in January 1885. The College is maintained by the Bhavnagar State, and is now under the supervision of the Chief Diwan Saheb, Mr. Prabhashankar Dalpatram Pattani.
