4. Should the Scholar discontinue her University studies or be unfavour ably reported on by the Head of the College, it shall be in the discretion of the Syndicate to stop payment of the stipend, or to declare the Scholarship forfeited.

5. Any surplus which may arise from the vacancy of the Scholarship during any year or part of a year shall be applied by the Syndicate in such manner as they shall think best fitted for furthering the object and purposes of the endowment.

6. The Senate shall have the power, whenever it may think fit, to modify or alter the terms upon which the Scholarship may be awarded, or otherwise to deal with the income of the Fund, provided the object for which the Scholarship has been founded is kept in view.

THE WORDSWORTH SCHOLARSHIP AND PRIZE.

In March 1893, the Honorary Secretaries to the Wordsworth Memorial Fund offered to the University a sum of Rs. 6,000 in 5 per cent. Municipal Bonds, for the purpose of founding a Scholarship and Prize "to perpetuate the memory of the services rendered to the University and to Higher Education " by Dr. W. Wordsworth, some time Vice-Chancellor of the University, the Scholarship and Prize being awarded for excellence in Compulsory History at the B.A. Examination.

At a meeting of the Senate, held on the 16th December 1893, this offer was accepted with the best thanks of the Senate.

The Scholarship and Prize will be awarded in accordance with the following Regulations :

A Scholarship, to be called "THE WORDSWORTH SCHOLARSHIP," of the value of Rs. 20 per month and tenable for one year, and a Prize, to be called "THE WORDSWORTH PRIZE," consisting of books of the value of Rs. 45, shall be awarded annually by the Syndicate to the Candidate who passes the examination for the Degree of Bachelor of Arts with the highest total of marks in Compulsory History.

2. The annual income of the Fund shall be subject to a deduction of 5 per cent. to be contributed to the General Fund of the University.

3. Any surplus which may arise from the vacancy of the Scholarship during any year or part of a year shall be applied by the Syndicate in such manner as they shall think best fitted for furthering the object and purposes of the endowment.

In October 1893, an anonymous offer of a sum of Rs. 6,000, in 4 per cent. Government Promissory Notes, was received through a friend of the donor, for the foundation of a Gold Medal in the name of the late Honourable Mr. Justice K. T. Telang, to be awarded for excellence in History and Philosophy* at the M.A. Examination.

At a meeting of the Senate, held on the 13th March 1894, this offer was accepted with the best thanks of the Senate.

The Medal and the Prize will be awarded in accordance with the following Regulations:

A Gold Medal, to be called "THE KASHINATH TRIMBAK TELANG GOLD MEDAL," shall be awarded annually by the Syndicate to the Candidate who passes the Examination for the Degree of M.A. in the first or second class with the highest number of marks in History or Philosophy. The Medal shall be assigned alternately to the examinations in these two branches, provided that when there is no successful candidate in the branch to which the Medal is assigned in any given year, the Medal will be awarded to the successful candidate in the other Branch: provided also that in 1900 candidates who appear under the old rules shall be eligible for the Medal.

In February 1894, Messrs. K. R. Cama and Mervanji Muncherji Cama, in a letter to the address of Dr. R. G. Bhandarkar, M.A., C.I.E., Vice-Chancellor of the Bombay University, offered to the University, on behalf of the subscribers to the Dosabhai Framji Cama Memorial Fund, a sum of Rs. 5,000 in four per cent. Bombay Port Trust Bonds, for the foundation of a Scholarship, to be called the Dosabhai Framji Cama Scholarship, and to be awarded under certain conditions to a Parsi Candidate at the Matriculation Examination.

At a meeting of the Senate, held on the 29th June 1894, this offer was accepted with the best thanks of the Senate.

The Scholarship will be awarded in accordance with the following Regulations:

A Scholarship, to be called "THE DOSABHAI FRAMJI CAMA SCHOLARSHIP," of the value of Rs. 200 and tenable for one year, shall be awarded B 1964-39

annually by the Syndicate to the Candidate who passes the Matriculation Examination with the highest number of marks from among the Parsi Candidates, and is placed within the first ten on the list of the successful Candidates, on condition that he prosecutes his studies in a College or Institution recognized by the University of Bombay.

2. Failing a qualified Parsi Candidate under the preceding Regulation, the Scholarship shall be awarded to the Candidate who passes the Matriculation Examination with the highest number of marks from among all the Candidates.

3. The Candidate who is awarded the Scholarship must satisfy the Registrar, within six weeks from the date of his election, that he has joined a College or Institution recognized by the University of Bombay.

4. The stipend of the Scholarship shall, subject to a deduction of five per centum to be contributed to the General Fund of the University, be payable half-yearly by the University Registrar on a bill to be drawn by the Head of such College, who shall certify under his signature on such bill that the Scholar is in regular attendance at the College, that his conduct is good, and that his progress in University studies is satisfactory.

THE GANGABAI BHAT SCHOLARSHIP.

In December 1894, Rao Bahadur Chintaman N. Bhat, B.A., LL.B., and his wife, in a letter addressed to Dr. R. G. Bhandarkar, M.A., C.I.E., Vice-Chancellor of Bombay University, offered to the University a sum of Rs. 5,000,* in 3 per cent. Government Promissory Notes, for the foundation of a Scholarship in the name of Gangabai Bhat, the mother of the former, to be awarded to an unmarried Hindu female Candidate passing the Intermediate or Previous Examination in Arts or, in the absence of such a Candidate, to an unmarried Hindu male Candidate.

At a meeting of the Senate, held on the 13th September 1895, this offer was accepted with the best thanks of the Senate.

The Scholarship will be awarded in accordance with the following Regulations:

A Scholarship, to be called "THE GANGABAI BHAT SCHOLARSHIP," of the value of Rs. 165 and tenable for one year, shall be awarded annually by the Syndicate to the Candidate who passes the Intermediate or Previous Examination in Arts, preferably the former, with the highest number of marks from among unmarried Hindu + female Candidates, on condition that she prosecutes her studies at a recognized College or Institution.

2. Failing a qualified Hindu female Candidate, the Scholarship shall be awarded on like conditions to an unmarried Hindu male Candidate who passes the Intermediate or Previous Examination, preference being again given to the former.

3. Candidates for the Scholarship must forward their applications for it with their applications to appear at the Intermediate and Previous Examinations in connection with which the Scholarship is awarded (vide Form AAX).

4. The Candidate who is awarded the Scholarship must satisfy the Syndicate, within six weeks from the date of her or his election, that she or he has joined a recognized College.

5. The stipend of the Scholarship shall, subject to a deduction of five per centum to be contributed to the General Fund of the University, be payable half-yearly by the University Registrar on a bill to be drawn by the Head of such College, who shall certify under his signature on such bill that the Scholar is in regular attendance at the College, that her or his conduct is good, and that her or his progress in University studies is satisfactory.
