with the best thanks of the Senate at their meeting held on 19th September 1898.

The Scholarship or Prize will be awarded in accordance with the following Regulations :

A Scholarship, to be called "THE EBRAHIM NURDIN SCHOLARSHIP," of the value of Rs. 210 (subject to the 5 per cent. deduction to be mentioned below) and tenable for one year, shall be awarded annually by the Syndicate to the candidate who passes the Matriculation Examination with the highest number of marks from among the Dawudi Bohra candidates, on condition that he prosecutes his studies at a recognised College or Institution; or a Prize of the same value, to be called "THE EBRAHIM NUBDIN PRIZE," shall be awarded to the eligible candidate, on condition that he proceeds to Great Britain or Ireland to prosecute his studies.

2. Candidates for the Scholarship or Prize must forward their applications for it with their applications to appear at the Matriculation Examination in connection with which the Scholarship or Prize is awarded (vide Form AAAB).

3. Failing a qualified candidate at the Matriculation Examination, the Scholarship or Prize shall be awarded on the same conditions as those specified in Regulation 1 to the Dawudi Bohra candidate who passes the Previous, Intermediate Arts, or B.A., or such other examination of that year as the Syndicate may think fit, preference being given in that order.

4. The candidate, to whom the Scholarship or Prize is awarded, must satisfy the Syndicate, within six weeks from the date of his election, that he has joined a recognised College or has proceeded to Great Britain or Ireland for the purpose of prosecuting his studies.

5. The stipend of the Scholarship shall be payable half-yearly by the University Registrar on a bill to be drawn by the Head of some recognized College or Institution, who shall certify under his signature on such bill that the Scholar is in regular attendance at the College, that his conduct is good, and that his progress in University studies is satisfactory.

6. Should the scholar discontinue his University studies, or be unfavourably reported on by the Head of his College or Institution, it shall be in the discretion of the Syndicate to stop payment of the stipend, or to declare the Scholarship forfeited.

7. The annual income of the Fund shall be subject to a deduction of 5 per cent. to be contributed to the General Fund of the University.

8. Any surplus which may arise from the vacancy of the Scholarship or the Prize being not awarded during any year or part of a year, shall be applied by the Syndicate in such manner as they shall think best fitted for furthering the object and purposes of the endowment.

9. The Senate shall have the power, whenever it may think fit, to modify or alter the terms upon which the Scholarship or Prize may be awarded, or otherwise to deal with the income of the Fund, provided the object for which the Scholarship or Prize has been founded is kept in view.

LXXXVI.

THE SIR MANGALDAS NATHUBHAI LEGAL SCHOLARSHIP.

In August 1898, in a letter addressed to the Registrar, Bombay University, the Trustees of a certain Indenture (dated 7th February 1881) made between the late Sir Mangaldas Nathubhai, Kt., C.S.I., and certain other persons, offered to the University a sum of Rs. 21,371-10-10 in 5 per cent. Municipal Bonds and cash for the foundation of a Scholarship to be called "THE SIR MANGALDAS NATHUBHAI LEGAL SCHOLARSHIP" and awarded on certain conditions to the candidate who passes the Second Examination for the Degree of LL.B. with the highest number of marks.

At a meeting of the Senate held on 14th March 1899, the offer was accepted with the best thanks of the Senate.

The Scholarship will be awarded in accordance with the following Regulations:

A Scholarship, to be called "THE SIR MANGALDAS NATHUBHAI LEGAL SCHOLARSHIP," of the value of the annual income of the Fund (subject to the 5 per cent. deduction to be mentioned below) and tenable for three years, shall be awarded by the Syndicate once in every three years, or whenever vacant, to the candidate who passes the Second Examination for the Degree of LL.B. with the highest number of marks on condition that he prosecutes his legal studies with a view to qualify himself for admission as an Advocate of the High Court of Bombay.

2. The Scholarship, when vacant, shall be announced for competition. Applications should be sent to the Registrar under Form (AAAC).

3. The Candidate to whom the Scholarship is awarded must satisfy the Syndicate within six weeks from the date of his election that he has begun attending the High Court in order to keep terms for admission as an Advocate.

4, The stipend of the Scholarship shall be payable half-yearly on a bill to be drawn by the scholar on which the Prothonotary of the High Court, Original Side, or Registrar of the High Court, Appellate Side, has certified under his signature that the scholar is in regular attendance at the High Court.

5. Should the scholar discontinue his legal studies or be unfavourably reported on by the Prothonotary of the High Court, Original Side, or Registrar of the High Court, Appellate Side, it shall be in the discretion of the Syndicate to stop payment of the stipend, or to declare the Scholarship forfeited.

6. The annual income of the Fund shall be subject to a deduction of 5 per cent. to be contributed to the General Fund of the University.

7. Any surplus which may arise from the vacancy of the Scholarship during any year or part of a year shall be applied by the Syndicate in such manner as they shall think best fitted for furthering the object and purposes of the endowment.

8. The Senate shall have the power, whenever it may think fit, to modify or alter the terms upon which the Scholarship may be awarded, or otherwise to deal with the income of the Fund, provided the object for which the Scholarship has been founded is kept in view.

In April 1898, in a letter addressed to the Registrar, Bombay University, the Honorary Secretaries to the Chatfield Memorial Fund offered to the University on behalf of the subscribers to the Fund a sum of Rs. 12,000 in 3 per cent. Government Paper for the foundation of a Scholarship and a Prize in the name of the late Director of Public Instruction, K. M. Chatfield, M.A., to be awarded annually under certain conditions at the Matriculation Examination.

At a meeting of the Senate held on 14th March 1899, the offer was accepted with the best thanks of the Senate.

The Scholarship and the Prize will be awarded in accordance with the following Regulations :

A Scholarship, to be called "THE CHATFIELD SCHOLARSHIP," of the value of Rs. 24 per mensem, shall be awarded by the Syndicate, whenever vacant, to the candidate who passes the Matriculation Examination with the highest number of marks from among the sons and daughters of the past or present masters and mistresses of a Government, Local Board, Municipal or Aided Vernacular School on the condition that he or she prosecutes his or her studies at a College or Institution recognized in Arts or at any of the following Institutions (1) the College of Science, (2) the Grant Medical College, (3) the Agricultural Department of any College affiliated to the University.

2. A Prize, to be called "THE CHATFIELD PRIZE," of the value of Rs. 100, shall be awarded annually by the Syndicate to the candidate who passes the Matriculation Examination with the highest number of marks from among the female candidates of purely native parentage.

3. Candidates for the Scholarship and the Prize must forward their applications for them with their applications for permission to appear at the Matriculation Examination (vide Forms AAAD and AAAE).

4. The Scholarship shall be tenable for the full period of the course which the Scholar selects.

5. The candidate, to whom the Scholarship is awarded, must satisfy the Syndicate, within six weeks from the date of election, that he or she has duly joined one of the Institutions mentioned in Regulation 1.

6. The stipend of the Scholarship shall be payable monthly by the University Registrar on a bill to be drawn by the Head of such recognized College or Institution, who shall certify under his signature on such bill that the scholar is in regular attendance at the College, that his or her conduct is good, and that his or her progress in his or her studies. is satisfactory.

7. Should the scholar discontinue his or her studies, or be unfavourably reported on by the Head of his or her College or Institution, it shall be in the discretion of the Syndicate to stop payment of the stipend, or to declare the Scholarship forfeited.

8. The annual income of the Fund shall be subject to a deduction of 5 per cent. to be contributed to the General Fund of the University.

THE RAO BAHADUR KARAMSI DAMJI SCHOLARSHIP. In February 1899, in a letter addressed to the Registrar, Bombay University, Mr. Vasanji Tricanji Mulji offered to the University a sum of Rs. 6,000 in 3 per cent. Government Paper for the foundation of a Scholarship in the name of his friend Rao Bahadur Karamsi Damji, J.P., to be awarded annually to the highest among the Cutchi Lohana or Dassa Oswal Bania candidates at the Matriculation Examination.

The offer was accepted with the best thanks of the Senate at their meeting held on 6th September 1899.

The Scholarship will be awarded in accordance with the following conditions::

A Scholarship, to be called "THE RAO BAHADUR KARAMSI DAMJI SCHOLARSHIP," of the value of Rs. 210 (subject to the 5 per cent. deduction to be mentioned below) and tenable for one year, shall be awarded annually by the Syndicate to the candidate who passes the Matriculation Examination with the highest number of marks from among the Cutchi Lohana candidates. Failing a qualified Cutchi Lohana candidate the Scholarship shall be awarded to the candidate who passes the Examination with the highest number of marks from among the Cutchi Dassa Oswal Bania candidates.

2. Candidates for the Scholarship must forward their applications for it with their applications to appear at the Matriculation Examination in connection with which the Scholarship is awarded (vide Form AAAF).

3. The candidate to whom the Scholarship is awarded must satisfy the Syndicate, within six weeks from the date of his election, that he has joined a College or Institution recognized by the University of Bombay.

4. The stipend of the Scholarship shall be payable half-yearly by the University Registrar on a bill to be drawn by the Head of such College, who shall certify under his signature on such bill that the scholar is in regular attendance at the College, that his conduct is good, and that his progress in University studies is satisfactory.

5. Should the scholar discontinue his University studies, or be unfavourably reported on by the Head of his College, it shall be in the discretion of the Syndicate to stop payment of the stipend, or to declare the Scholarship forfeited.

THE J. C. LISBOA GOLD MEDAL.

In September 1899, in a letter addressed to the Registrar, Bombay University, Mrs. J. C. Lisboa offered to the University a sum of Rs. 6,000 in 3 per cent. Government Paper for the foundation of a Gold Medal, to be called "THE J. C. LISBOA GOLD MEDAL," in memory of her husband, the late Dr. J. C. Lisboa, to be awarded annually to the male candidate highest in Surgery at the L.M. & S. Examination.

The offer was accepted with the best thanks of the Senate at their meeting held on 20th February 1900.

The Medal will be awarded in accordance with the following Regulations:

A Gold Medal, to be called "THE J. C. LISBOA GOLD MEDAL," will be awarded annually by the Syndicate to the candidate who passes the Examination for the Degree of Licentiate of Medicine and Surgery, with the highest number of marks in Surgery from among the male candidates.

2. The annual income of the Fund shall be subject to a deduction of per cent. to be contributed to the General Fund of the University.

3. A prize, consisting of books of the value of the surplus left over out of the annual income of the Fund, after defraying the cost of the Medal, shall also be awarded to the Medallist.

4. Any surplus, which may arise from the Medal not being awarded during any year, shall be applied by the Syndicate in such manner as they shall think best fitted for furthering the object and purposes of the endowment.
