THE ABDULLA MEHERALLI DHARAMSI KHOJA
TESTIMONIAL SCHOLARSHIP.

To commemorate the occasion of the nomination of the late Mr. A. M. Dharamsi to the Bombay Legislative Council, Messrs. Rehemubhoy Allana and Ibrahim Rahimitulla offered to the University, in February 1900, on behalf of the Committee of the "Abdulla Meheralli Dharamsi Khoja Testimonial Fund,” a sum of Rs. 6,000 in 3 per cent. Government Paper, for the foundation of a Scholarship, to be called "THE ABDULLA MEHERALLI DHARAMSI KHOJA TESTIMONIAL SCHOLARSHIP, " to be awarded annually under certain conditions to the highest among Khoja Mahomedan candidates at the Previous Examination.

The offer was accepted with the best thanks of the Senate at their meeting held on 24th July 1900.

The Scholarship will be awarded in accordance with the following Regulations :

A Scholarship, to be called "THE ABDULLA MEHERALLI DHARAMSI KHOJA TESTIMONIAL SCHOLARSHIP," of the value of the annual income of the Fund (subject to the 5 per cent. deduction to be mentioned below) and tenable for one year, shall be awarded annually by the Syndicate to the candidate who passes the Previous Examination with the highest number of marks from among the Khoja Mahomedan candidates, on condition that he prosecutes his studies at a recognised College or Institution. If, however, the candidate has obtained the Sir Frank Souter Scholarship for the Previous Examination, the Scholarship shall be awarded to the next best Khoja Mahomedan candidate.

2. Candidates for the Scholarship must forward their applications for it with their applications for permission to appear at the Previous Examination. (Vide Form AAAG.)

3. The candidate, to whom the Scholarship is awarded, must satisfy the Syndicate, within six weeks from the date of election, that he has duly joined a recognised College or Institution.

4. The stipend of the Scholarship shall be payable half-yearly by the University Registrar on a bill to be drawn by the Head of such recognised College or Institution who shall certify, under his signature on such bill, that the scholar is in regular attendance at the College, that his conduct is good, and that his progress in University studies is satisfactory.

5. Should the scholar discontinue his University studies, or be unfavourably reported on by the Head of his College or Institution, it shall be in the discretion of the Syndicate to stop payment of the stipend, or to declare the Scholarship forfeited.

6. The annual income of the Fund shall be subject to a deduction of 5 per cent. to be contributed to the General Fund of the University.

7. Any surplus, which may arise from the vacancy of the Scholarship during any year or part of a year, shall be applied by the Syndicate in such manner as they shall think best fitted for furthering the object and purposes of the endowment.

THE SIR MANGALDAS NATHUBHAI SCHOLARSHIPS. In August 1897, in a letter addressed to the Vice-Chancellor, Bombay University, Messrs. Tribhowandas Mangaldas Nathubhai, Purshottumdas Mangaldas Nathubhai and Jugmohandas Mangaldas Nathubhai, the sons of the late Sir Mangaldas Nathubhai, offered to the University, in full satisfaction of the claims of the University under the will of their father, a sum of Rs. 3,50,000* for the foundation of several Scholarships, to be called "THE SIR MANGALDAS NATHUBHAI SCHOLARSHIPS," to be awarded to Hindu Graduates of the Bombay University under certain conditions.

The offer was accepted with the best thanks of the Senate at their meeting held on 24th July 1900.

The Scholarships will be awarded in accordance with the following Regulations:

Out of the income of the Sir Mangaldas Nathubhai Scholarship Fund invested upon Government Promissory Notes of the three and a half per cent. loan, seven Scholarships, to be called "THE SIR MANGALDAS NATHUBHAI SCHOLARSHIPS," shall be awarded by the Syndicate at the rate of two every year and an additional one every third year, or in accordance with any other arrangement that may appear most suitable to the Syndicate.

2. Each Scholarship shall be of the annual value of the interest or Rupees Fifty thousand invested in Government Promissory Notes of the 3 per cent. loan (or on a seventh part of the said invested Fund), subject to the 5 per cent. deduction to be mentioned below.

3. The Scholarships shall be open to competition by all Hindu Graduates of the Bombay University, and shall be tenable for not less than three years. An extension of the period of tenure may be granted at the discretion of the Syndicate, provided the whole period does not exceed five years, and if any extension be so granted the Syndicate may vary, as they deem necessary, the provisions of Regulation (1) so far as the same regulates the periodical award of the Scholarships.

4. Whenever the Scholarships are to be awarded, a convenient day for holding an election shall be appointed by the Syndicate who shall give due notice of the same in the Bombay Government Gazette (or in the Bombay English Dailies).

5. Candidates for the Scholarships must forward their applications to the Registrar under Form (AAAH) as required by the Syndicate.

6. The election shall take place, without examination of Candidates, by the votes of the Syndics.

7. The Scholarships shall be payable half-yearly in advance from the day of the scholar's leaving India, or if he is already in England, from the date of his election.

8. The conditions of tenure are:

That the scholars, unless they are already in England, must leave Bombay and proceed to England within two months--unless the time be extended by the Syndicate-after their election and reside there for the purpose of receiving technical education; and that they shall report twice a year to the Syndicate as to the mode in which their time has been spent.

9. Any violation of the above conditions shall ipso facto cause the Scholarship to be forfeited; and the Syndicate shall be empowered, for any just cause, to recall and deprive of his Scholarship any one who may have been elected.

10. The annual income of the Fund shall be subject to a deduction of 5 per cent. to be contributed to the General Fund of the University.

11. Any surplus, which may arise from the vacancy of the Scholarships during any portion of the period of their tenure, shall be applied by the Syndicate in such manner as they shall think best fitted for furthering the object and purposes of the Endowment.

12. The Senate shall have the power, whenever it may think fit, but subject to the directions contained in the order of the High Court, dated 23rd day of January 1899, in suits No. 444 of 1881 and 114 of 1895, to modify or alter the above regulations.

THE MISS YAMUNABAI ATMARAM DALVI SCHOLARSHIP.

In November 1899, in a letter addressed to the Registrar, Bombay University, Miss Yamunabai Atmaram Dalvi offered to the University a sum of Rs. 6,000 in 3 per cent. Government Paper for the foundation of a Scholarship in her own name to be awarded annually to the Female Candidate highest in Sanskrit at the Matriculation Examination.

The offer was accepted with the best thanks of the Senate at their meeting held on 29th March 1900.

The Scholarship will be awarded in accordance with the following Regulations:

A Scholarship, to be called "THE MISS YAMUNABAI ATMARAM DALVI SCHOLARSHIP," of the value of Rs. 210 (subject to the 5 per cent. deduction to be metioned below) and tenable for one year, shall be awarded annually by the Syndicate to the Female Candidate who passes the Matriculation Examination with the highest number of marks in Sanskrit.

2. Failing a qualified Female Candidate, the Scholarship shall be awarded to the male candidate who passes the Matriculation Examination with the highest number of marks in Sanskrit from among the candidates belonging to the Saraswat Gauda (Shenvi) Brahman community.

3. The candidate, to whom the Scholarship is awarded, must satisfy the Syndicate, within six weeks from the date of election, that she or he has duly joined a recognised College or Institution.

THE BYRAMJEE NUSSERWANJEE KOYAJEE SCHOLARSHIP AND SILVER MEDAL.

In August 1900, in a letter addressed to the Registrar, Bombay University, Mrs. Byramjee Nusserwanjee Koyajee offered to the University a sum of Rs. 6,000 in 3 per cent. Government Paper for the foundation of a Scholarship and a Silver Medal in the name of her husband, the late Surgeon-Captain Byramjee Nusserwanjee Koyajee of Her Majesty's Indian Medical Service, to be

awarded annually to the Parsi candidate who passes the Matriculation Examination with the highest number of marks in Elementary Science.

The offer was accepted with the best thanks of the Senate at their meeting held on the 29th January 1901.

The Scholarship and Medal will be awarded in accordance with the following Regulations:

A Scholarship, to be called "THE BYRAMJEE NUSSERWANJEE KOYAJEE SCHOLARSHIP," of the value of Rs. 189 per annum and tenable for one year, shall be awarded annually by the Syndicate to the Candidate who passes the Matriculation Examination, or any other Examination which in future may be recognised as necessary for admission to the Grant Medical College, with the highest number of marks in Elementary Science from among the Parsi candidates, on condition that he prosecutes his medical studies with a view to obtain a Medical Degree in a College or Institution recognised in Medicine by the University of Bombay.

A Silver Medal, to be called "THE BYRAMJEE NUSSERWANJEE KOYAJEE SILVER MEDAL," of the value of Rs. 10, shall also be presented to the candidate on the same conditions.
