9. The plan is given of a square prism 2 inches edge of base and 3 8 inches long, having an octagonal hole pierced through its entire length. The diameter of the hole is 2 inches. The line SN represents a vertical plane cutting through the upper half of the solid only. Draw an elevation, supposing the upper half of the solid in front of SN to be removed. The part in section should be clearly shown by lightly shading it.

DRAWING (Perspective)-PAPER II.

N.B.-All construction must be clearly shown.

1. Give a definition of linear perspective; explain its use, and give reasons 10 why it should be studied.

2. Put into perspective the given geometrical figure A lying on the 15 ground. One angle of the octagon is to touch the picture plane, and one side is inclined at an angle of 45° with the picture.

3. Put into perspective a doorway through a wall and a semi-circular 25 step of which plan C and elevation B are given. The position of the wall and the step in relation to the picture plane and the distance of the eye from the picture are shown in the plan. In showing your figure in perspective begin your drawing from the point D.

The height of the eye above the ground is shown by the horizontal line in the elevation.

Set out all the measurements for the perspective drawing to twice the scale of the given drawing.

DRAWING (Free-hand)-PAPER III.

The given drawing is to be copied on a little smaller scale. No lines of any kind are to be drawn on the example.

MANUAL TRAINING-PAPER I.

(Practical Geometry, and Plan and Projection.)

Practical Geometry.

Draw perpendiculars to the line AB, from the points A, C, and D. (Fig. 1.)

2.

Draw a line parallel to AB at a distance 2′′ above it. (Fig. 2.)

3. Divide the line AB into seven equal parts. (Fig. 3.)

4. Construct an isosceles triangle on base AB, with the given vertical angle C. (Fig. 4.)
