For the same reasons, when the price is per thousand, we divide the product by 1000, or, which is more convenient in practice, we reduce the given quantity to thousands and deci ́mals of a thousand, by pointing off three figures from the right hand. Hence the RULE. I. Reduce the given quantity to hundreds and decimals of a hundred, or to thousands and decimals of a thousand. II. Multiply the price by the quantity, and point off in the result as in multiplication of decimals. NOTE. The letter C is used to indicate hundreds, and M to indicate thousands.
