(No. IV.) SUMMARY OF GRANTS awarded, by Committee of Council on Education, in aid of ERECTION OF IMPROVEMENT of SCHOOL-BUILDINGS, from ▲ January to 31 December 1852. The period of eighteen months from the date of each award is allowed for claiming payment of Building-Grants. Grants for improvement, or enlargement, if exceeding 50%., may be claimed within twelve months; if less than 50l., within six months from the date of the award. Beyond these periods the Committee of Council on Education do not hold themselves responsible for payment. From this arrangement it results that a great proportion of the grants for building, improvement, or enlargement, paid in each year, were awarded in preceding years. See two following Tables. The following Explanatory Table (A.) exhibits, under the foregoing heads, all the payments made between 1 January and 31 December 1852, including the foregoing sum of 12,184/.128.3d. EXPLANATORY TABLE A. The following Explanatory Table (B.) exhibits, under the foregoing heads, all the Building Grants (including from the first Table the sum of 46,636. 16s. 11d.) remaining wapaid; and which, not having lapsed before 31 December 1852, may be claimed within the year now current, in addition to those awarded within the year now current. The Parliamentary Estimate for Building-Grants, in each year, is calculated with reference to the three foregoing Tables. |
